"Who HAS to identify as black to avoid the side-eye"

No one has to identify as anything, but if you have four black grandparents and identify as anything as anything other than black, EVERYBODY looking at you like you crazy. So, where's the cut-off?

Do you expect people who are a quarter black to identify as black?

We were legally 3/5 of a human being here. Who is and ain't black is woven into the very fabric of this nation.

it ONLY applied for the purpose of determining how many representatives would be sent to the House from a given state. the # of reps from a given state is determined in part by the state's population. in slave-holding states the slaves weren't counted as a whole person - they were 3/5.

that was the only use of the 3/5 thing.

fuck you.

us to be counted as 5/5 so they could have more seats. But this is like the belief in the existence of the Willy Lynch letter - it's pop culture interpretation is all the matters.

And the compromise was not driven by race hate as much as it was driven by the North trying to avoid having the South dominate in the House.

no, they don't. but i give the side-eye if they disavow their blackness.

i had no problem w/Tiger's 'cablinasian' thing...b/c the blackness was right there in it - the 'bl' = BLACK. his point was that he didn't want to identify as white/caucasian or black or native american or Asian exclusively. he wanted to honor all of his (known) ancestry. that's fine w/me.

fuck you.

I wouldn't say I'd give someone the side eye for not identifying as black. I would hope that a person would be comfortable with acknowledging all aspects of their heritage. However, if they clearly look black and don't identify as such, I'd think they were being incredibly naive to not accept that they will be identified as black by the rest of the world.

I have a friend who looks like a ginger haired white guy

But

His mother is a dark Jamaican woman and his father was a Dutch man. He just came out looking white as fuck.

He admits to being black and will do so at the drop of a hat

Is he allowed to say "nigga nigga nigga"?

On the inside he is mentally black but then he is able to take advantage of the privileges available to white men.

How does that work?

If he's half black and identifies as black, then he's black. He may have more agency regarding his identity than most, but it's pretty simple. As far as being able to say nigga, I mean we accept from Drake and loads of other biracial people. So, why wouldn't he be able to?

i.e. black folks that don't look black at all. So, I guess I've always been comfortable with the idea that the identity of blackness is not necessarily predicated on the perceived physical attributes of blackness.

i myself would never want to be god,or even like god.Because god got all these human beings on this planet and i most certainly would not want to be responsible for them, or even have the disgrace that i made them.
