"Anyone here wear White Dress Shirts?"

How many wearings does it go through before a wash?

What's your method of washing it? Dry Cleaning? I figure white dress shirts would get dirty quick so it would be expensive taking it to dry cleaners. Perhaps I can just handwash it?

It in the wash. And you probably should every time you wear it unless you're just going out for an hour or two to dinner. The dry cleaner is just going to wash and press it.

etc shirts for $1 a few months ago. i washed them in the machine with hot water 2x before i sold them on ebay. they weren't filthy but that's what it took to get them absolutely free of any ring around the collar, pit stains and smelling fabulous. i wouldn't be willing to do that labor handwashing.

No set number. I wash it once the neck and/or cuffs start showing dirt. I keep 3 of the same white dress shirt.

>What's your method of washing it? Dry Cleaning?
Wash it with white clothes, and hang until almost dry and iron while a bit damp.

Perhaps I can just handwash it?
I hand wash from time to time. Works well.

If needed. Then throw it in the wash.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Typically, two to three times. I never spray any cologne on them and always wear a t-shirt underneath regardless of temperature. So that helps keep them fresh.

>What's your method of washing it? Dry Cleaning? I figure white

Dry cleaning. Some of my favorites to wear are lower end brands that I cop from Nordstroms. Calibrate and 1901 make some solid ones. I do replace them in batches in every four to six months.

in school. i don't see how you can be ready for a professional work place if you don't know how to wash and iron a button up (or who to take it to to get it done). Not knowing how to dress for work is at epidemic levels. I saw a lot of older people complaining on glassdoor at my last job about kids these days coming out of college not knowing htis stuff. Now I get it. This generation lives in tees and sweats. Society has failed them.

I see plenty of younger kids in suits and ties in Charlotte because it's a banking hub.

Old people always complain about the way kids dress.

If you're already hand washing, use a little bit of OxyClean and white vinegar to manage arm pit/deodorant stains. I've gotten in the habit of wearing undershirts with white or light colored shirts to try to combat the eventually yellowing of the arm pit areas.

additionally oxyclean is not alawys appropriate for colored fabrics.

it can also seriously weaken fibers resulting in holes.

And when I say dry cleaners I mean I take it to the dry cleaners to get washed, not dry cleaned. My cleaners charges $4 per shirt to get dry cleaned, and only $1.25 to get washed and pressed. So it's cheaper and in my experience, the shirts last longer being washed repeatedly than they would being dry cleaned repeatedly with all those chemicals they use.

those areas tend to get soiled quickly on white dress shirts, and it can be very apparent.
however, it's possible to push the limits and rock a white dress shirt twice between washes. just be sure to check your sleeves (outside and inside the cuff, and the elbow area) and your collar (make sure it's not soiled above the collar fold).
I think most situations are going to require that you wash your white dress shirts after every wear.

a better question: how do you keep your white dress shirts WHITE?! this question is especially directed at those who wash their own. how do you avoid getting that gawd awful yellow tinge that seems to affect white shirts are multiple washes???

but that's not the reason why.
Just haven't had a need for either in the past 4-5 years, so when I last cleared out my closet I didn't bother to re-up.

I've gotten into arguments with multiple church officials over this. My response is some variation of kill yourself in the most church appropriate fashion.

47. "A quality non-iron shirt should get you 2-3 wears no dry cleaning"
In response to Reply # 0

If it's non iron you simply put it in the dryer and the heat activated chemicals in the fibers "iron" the shirt. If you hang it immediately after drying you won't have to iron unless there's an area you want really crisp.

All my button shirts are button collar as well (keeps the collar straight) and I haven't been to the dry cleaner for shirts in at least a year.

but, I wash white shirts after each wear. Blue shirts get two wears in temperatures under 80 degrees, one wear in warmer temps. I sweat.
