"why has the NBA Finals falling off badly in terms of interest?"

i mean obviously we dig the superstar players and keep up with our favorites however unlike the Super Bowl the NBA finals just seems a step off. now it ain't fell off like the World Series however it ain't exactly most see either.

please don't say the end of Jordan and that the Shaq, duncan,Wade,Kobe and especially the lebron run ended the excitement??

nobody wants to have NBA finals food partys no more. oh well

A LOT of folks riding for Curry. People excited to see what happens with Lebron going back home and bringing the Cavs this far.

No one is having a party four times, at the least. Will never compare to a Super Bowl or a College National Title Game. But if you look at the ratings for Game 7's that have occurred in the 2000s they are pretty high. That and the "the end of Jordan" is actually applicable. Dude was the Micheal Jackson of sports, worldwide icon. We havent had anyone in basketball approach his worldwide fame since. Not even close.

He is the best player in the league but there really is no finesse to his game. He is just way bigger than anyone else at his position so he bull dozes defenders and kicks the ball out. IT's kinda boring.

I do like watching Golden State play though.

Lebron will never get his due. Him driving the lane while people bounce off him on the way to a lay-up will never be as celebrated as Jordan's finesse. I'm starting to get convinced that Lebron is MUCH better than Jordan ever was. Noone's gonna see it like that though. It just looks too effortless for him to be a hero. When people see Lebron they say 'If I had his physical composition I could do that too'.

But the fact is....you could take Lebron and trade him to Philly....make a couple minor deals for role players....and get to the finals next year. I don't think you can say that about any other athlete in any other sport at any other time.

Or if I'm just older now and generally not as easily entertained as I was as a kid watching Jordan or a teenage watching Kobe. My gut tells me that may be partially to blame, but it really does feel like Lebron's game is somehow less visually entertaining than theirs.

been pretty epic...at least the excitement leading up to them. Of course some finals didn't live up to the expectations (last yr) but that happens in sports but for the record there have been far more lopsided Super Bowl gms than NBA finals series...

The Super Bowl will always win out over the NBA finals and World Series in regards to the interest and hype in part because of how it's become a secular holiday...but worldwide people couldn't care less abt a Super Bowl...but they LOVE the NBA and the World Series

because rarely do teams who meet in the finals one year face each other the next...

The last time that happened was the Bulls vs Jazz and before that I think it was Seattle/Washington in the late 70s

And also because of the way the Spurs lost/blew that series everyone knew revenge was on their mind which added to the intrigue

it will go down as one of the most watched of all time

everybody and their mama loves stephen curry and the warriors.

MVP vs "Best Player on the Planet"

and Lebron as an underdog in the Finals.

This is gonna to be epic.

I see Warriors in 6, but for Bron to shake off haters he and the Cavs need to push it to 7.

Get ur popcorn ready.

Its going down.

As far as live audiences go anyway (though I'm guessing most Basketball arenas are necessarily smaller than Soccer arenas due to the size of the pitch)

Oh, you silly brits and your insistence that we give two fucks about "footy." Unless that's a jawn giving me a footjob under the table at dinner, you're wrong.

If you looked at the gate and the percentage of sellouts, hockey would be more popular than the NBA. It's very clearly not and soccer in the U.S., especially MLS soccer, is not nearly as popular as hockey, let alone basketball (which also thrives as a multi-billion dollar industry at the university level). Look at the proportion of seats sold and the price they are sold at. Look at TV ratings and merchandise sales.

In the United States, futbol is still mostly a sport for immigrants and nine-year-olds.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

But don't let that hold you back from a good ol' xenophobic rant.

The rest of the world is ready to play with you when you are.

And thanks for taking it seriously enough to bog your courts down in rooting out corruption everyone else seems happy to have been ignoring. I love having America involved in international sports.

I've lived in more than one soccer-crazed country. The best argument anyone can offer is that it's the most popular sport in the world. Coca-Cola is the most popular drink and it still tastes like donkey piss. It will NEVER catch on America and the reason why are going after Fifa is the same reason we went after Nixon. It was all fine and dandy until the wrong toes were stepped on.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

LeBron vs the best/most exciting team from the West with the MVP.

Maybe it would have a little more buzz if a team from a major media city were involved but the best team out of LA nutted up, the other LA team sucks, and the NY teams suck... so this is where we are.

they should wrap up the season and post-season by the end of April. A little breather between NCAA and NBA postseasons, and calling it a wrap.

really sucked when it turned out the game was on Thursday and I'd be working that night. granted we have TVs all over the place so I'll catch plenty of highlights but, man, I was so stoked to get to see Game 1 in full.

as best I can tell this is the most exciting Final since Lakers v. Big Three, and has the chance to be WAY bigger if the Cavs can keep it close (I have a great fear this is a five game series, though).

the Super Bowl is a single game. the Finals are a 4-7 game series. there's plenty of interest in it. possibly the most interest in a championship other than the Super Bowl.

bow title game?

The time in between both sporting events is considerably longer than this finals which is really starting just a week later when the conference finals ended.

I feel like the wait has added to the anticipation

It ain't like the finals is competing w/anything else right now besides Hockey and the NBA finals really isn't competing them either...

.... and the finals are falling off badly in terms of interest?

LOOOOOOOLLLLL, You on some agenda shit and it's cool but these NBA finals are far more interesting because of the narratives:

Rookie head coach versus proven head coach with a 22 year track record.

Bron trying to win his third ring clearly overmatched.

Bron as the underdog for once in five years.

Steph Curry America's favorite player and the Warriors trying to win their first ring in their most successful season in franchise history.

Three point basketball versus ISO ball.

Can Ky surpass Steph in their duel?

Finally, who makes better adjustments?

IMHO, it's the most interesting finals in years because MY TEAM IS IN THE FINALS EAT IT MOUTH BREATHING HATING ASS MORONS.

NBA still pining for that perfect TV, the infallible star who looks good and plays smooth for a big market team.

Shaq was Goliath, Kobe was an asshole, the Spurs and Pistons were as entertaining as watching ants fuck to the casual fan and LeBron is regarded by those same fans as another unrelatably gifted guy who is also an egomaniac and a choker.

If you wanna get the whole country's attention and big ratings, you need the Jordans and Magics and Birds, which frankly we have not had since those guys. This is not talking about the hardcore basketball fan, those people will always watch and make up their baseline demographic. I mean what we had in terms of Jordan, Magic, et al.

I mean in other sports this very clear, Tiger took the PGA to another level. Greg Louganis got people on the street interested in diving. Diving! Wayne Gretzky and to a lesser extent Mario Lemieux brought in a lot of previously indifferent fans to hockey.

The NBA was not popular before those stars. Today, I would say there is more peripheral crap (shoes and other merchandise) sold than ever, but if you wanna talk about eyes on screens, buzz and national hubub, you need the big name superstars who have a great image and don't lose in the big games.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

The 2015 NBA Finals are off to a great start -- at least from a ratings perspective. Thursday's opening game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors drew the highest Game 1 ratings ever on ABC with an overnight rating of 12.9, up 24 percent from last season's Miami Heat-San Antonio Spurs series.

The impressive rating to start off the Finals is good news for the NBA, which has seen ratings decline for the past three years. The league's three major carriers -- ABC, ESPN and TNT -- each reported this was their least-watched season of NBA basketball since 2007-08. The playoffs haven't been kind to the NBA up to this point either, with 51 of 75 games declining from last year's ratings entering the Finals.

The past is my foundation, not my preoccupation.

fixture. Obviously his daughter & his mother have helped out a bit with that. But when I saw this post go up, I kinda shook my head in confusion. Now if he had said "NBA Playoffs", that would have made a little more sense. But a ton of people are going to watch the finals.

there was a span of 2 days where 3 or 4 games where won on the last shot.

Clips vs Spurs was good
Golden State vs Memphis was entertaining
ATL vs Wash
Cavs vs Bulls

Conference finals was the only let down IMO

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*
