"Best backup solution for this? Help me...lol ..."

Help...not sure if I am just brain dead right now lol but I am not sure about the best way to go about this

So I want to start using google drive for all of my project files
Right now I have an external drive and a NAS that I keep my project files on

One of my main clients (with multiple projects that I work on) uses google drive....up until now I selectively add project files to the shared folder based on their file needs...basically I typically keep the source files on my own hard drive and the project deliverable on the google drive

Now I want to simplify everything and put all project files on the google drive and back up everything in a seamless way

My biggest concern is that a few months ago someone from that organization deleted all of the files from the shared drive....luckily they were able to be retrieved but if all my project files had been on there I would have had a heart attack

I know you can sync google drive to a hard drive but my concern is the two way sync....like in the previous situation....i don't believe syncing the google drive to my hard drive would have helped me retrieve the files since in the sync process all of the file son my hard drive would have been deleted right?

So what is the solution here....I basically want to make sure regardless of what someone in the organization does with the shared files .... I will always have a back up in an automated way.

https://tools.google.com/dlpage/drive

The only issue i'm having is the fact that I have to dedicate the whole folder so I essentially have duplicates on my hard drive. I'm scared to just use the google drive as the main storage location.

So my work flow is:

Create a dedicated folder on Google Drive with the same name as the folder I want to sync.

I then copy that folder INTO the Google Drive folder on a regular basis and choose the "Merge" function.

There really should be an easier way....but I haven't found it yet.

you have to keep a back up locally IMO.

One would look like a fool telling a client all is lost cause Google fucked up.

selecting the local folder on your hard drive as the source that you want to keep backed up.

The thing is...Google wants you actively using and working FROM the Google Drive using it's own cloud apps. They really want you to buy their Chrome Books and demonstrate how working literally from the cloud is the future.
My thing is....when the cloud fails...you're S.O.L.

I passed on it....
Probably was a subscription cost or just too expensive....

If you have a Mac, I saw some forumns talking about using some kinda app built into OS X that would automate the process for you...but I couldn't figure that shit out for the life of me lol....

it worked flawlessly!!
But they abandoned it

Even worse is that now I get more free storage on OneDrive than on Google Drive and i'd gladly switch back if they still had that tool!

no way I would put prject files on a shared folder so some intern could erase them by accident.
