"Positive Friday"

dedicated to the regs

CUBA WAS AMAZING

so great. it was a beautiful experience. i'm very proud about how quickly i adjusted to no hot water and encountering toilet paper only 20% of the time. lol.

i want to go back and i also want to go to Haiti ASAP

i can't front. i was in my hot ass apartment last night wishing i could take that bottle of wine i was drinking and walk up and down the streets with it like i was on el malecon

it's sad but beautiful to see people really living in other places. so much better than us despite having so much less

work is a bit manic but managing
also having issues with my apartment but such is life

im feeling good regardless

tonight i'm having a pizza party with my favorite 6 year old
tomorrow is MAKOSSA!!! (OMG IM SCARED!)
i hope y'all love the new space

and sunday, DJ lessons and a surprise for me?

have a great one y'all

hot water isn't really prevalent (which is fine b/c it was hot as balls)
and not every bathroom has TP.

you just roll with it. or not but agonizing over it would have killed the trip.

I just got back from Costa Rica and experienced the same type of freedom. You have a lot less stuff and a lot more time to enjoy the beauty of the weather, food, people, and culture. Sometimes I wonder if the security of the west is worth losing so much time and energy just to keeps the lights on. I came back with the firm belief that we are wasting our lives here.

I had a really hard time readjusting to the western way of life when I returned and fell into a short post vacation depression, and even experienced a bit of an anxiety attack as I felt so overwhelmed by the amount of concrete, traffic, people, and fast pace. I am actively working my ass off to get out of here as fast as possible and never come back. Being in and around the ocean really moved me and put me in touch with something special. I have been dreaming about the ocean for weeks after my return, and knowing I was dreaming, and feeling really fucking sad because I was going to wake up to more concrete.

yesterday was especially bad b/c it was hot and all i wanted was a nice drink and a breeze and i have no stoop or fire escape to speak of. lol.

but yeah the simplicity
and the freedom in other ways. i was blown away about the freedom by which people drink alcohol. open containers ALL DAY LONG. you want a bottle of liquor and the stores are closed? buy one from a bar. people just posted up on the malecon with bottles of rum and not one drunken incident, no pools of vomit in the streets...remarkable.

but the street harassment is kind of one a thousand

and it's a bit shocking at first, and you almost can't accept that people just don't worry/stress as much as we do about little or meaningless things. Costa Rica was perfect, I would highly recommend going, everyone falls in love with the place, the only downside is that the prices of food/drink are pretty much the same as here. Accommodation's are hella cheap though, a 1 bedroom fully finished apartment goes for about $500 / month over there. It was nice to smoke some regular sun grown weed instead of the overly strong lab grown pot we have here. my short depression didn't kick in until a few days after where i finally realized I have to stay lol

actually it kinda was. drinks were like happy hour priced all the time ($3-4 bucks)

if the US dollar didn't have that 10% penalty it would have been even cheaper

but liquor was cheap
so were cigarettes. i only say this because those things were AMAZING. i'm really not a smoker but cigarettes there are not like the ones here. they don't reek and stick to your hair/clothes. they taste like tobacco and nothing else.

i did take it back to my old 'social smoking days' when you could smoke at bars. back then i was in toronto and bought a box of cohiba cigs and loved them and i haven't been able to find them since. i learned in march while i was in montreal that they stopped importing them.

i came back w/ 7 bottles of rum and 15 mini bottles for gifts. lol

When you look at those statistics comparing GDP to the happiest people in the world it's kind of crazy how there is no correlation between happiest and direct wealth (though I guess the studies show you do need a base level of subsistence to be happy but yeah).

>it's sad but beautiful to see people really living in other
>places. so much better than us despite having so much less

like shit just doesn't matter anymore. mentally it doesn't and i still have to act like i do. part of me wants to have a "nervous breakdown" to justify being completely capricious and saying fuck it, but the reality of it is it wouldn't be a breakdown. i'd know what i'd be doing. and i'd embrace it.

i lost a good friend Wed. went to sleep Tuesday night and that was it. 33. one of the bartenders i work with. good guy. literally one of those guys who nobody can really say anything bad about. of all the white guys who work at the bar we had the most in common with him. he liked hip hop. huge De La fan. i just worked the brunch shift with him on Mother's Day. we started that day off with a shot at 10 am and for the next 6 hours had a great time. he was a good dude.

life is so short. and i put so much shit off, and act like time is abundant and promised, but its not. and i grind and i work, but i have to be more....assertive. there's like some kind of greatness inside me that i don't allow to completely overtake me. i go through life being Clark Kent when Superman is dying to bust out. i don't know if its confidence or what, but i need to get over that shit. cause i think it would be really great to just follow my Donnie Darko wormhole. that driving propelling force to complete your mission.

and my friends death was a perfect reminder. it hit me hard, and i'm trying to turn it into a positive. stop smoking. get in great shape. buy a fucking house. grow your own food. eat better. save money. all yourself to be loved. be a man of your word. be the best you, you can be. its inspiring, and i'd like my friends death not the be in vain. RIP Mike.

happy friday ya'll.

Isn't Cuba tropical tho?
imagine being 8,000 feet above sea level and showering with cold water.
it will make you re-evaluate all your priorities in life.
Thank God my grandma insists on hot water and I just use hers

I wanted to do Colombia for my birthday this year
but life had other plans
maybe between Christmas and New Year's

I'm tired today
Going through so many changes

I want to know EVERYTHING!

I think I figured it all out. Took me awhile, but I really feel like I have a handle on life like never before.

I'm finally really to fully commit to my creative pursuits. I ain't about to quit my job or anything, but I'ma stop pretending I don't NEED it, as opposed to wanting it.

I'm REALLY enjoying drinking less and smoking more. Downside - drinking is FAR more social.

I don't think I've EVER had as much fun as I'm having right now. Life is good and it's ONLY going to get better.
