but without being 'Playery, sure I get the appeal.
It's extremely overly misogynistic, let's get that out the way. Rooted in patriarchy, all of that, for sure.
But for most boys, or men, who look up to pimps in some sort of way, don't do so because they're violent towards women, or because they take advantage of women who aren't in a position to defend themselves. The more than most of us find out about pimps, beyond the Don Juan, Pimpin Ken types...the more we lose respect for them.
As a High Schooler, I thought it was amazing because most of my friends were too shy to even know what to say to a girl at the mall to get her phone number. Knowing that there were men who could verbally get chicks to do ANYTHING for them, AND pay them? That was some superhero type shit. Of course, we were picturing them doing this with great looking 21-25 year old women, and not teens or crackhead types.
Beyond that, the flashiness appealed to my young sensibilities. I had a 98 Corolla. Seeing them in shiny ass Cadillacs, with gaudy clothes and shades was just fly. And knowing (well, thinking) they got paid enough to get to this point just from having the strongest mouth piece in the world was prop-worthy.
With Don Juan, Pimpin Ken, and anyone else like them...we just loved hearing them talk, because it was hilarious, and they spit out catchy shit effortlessly. They seemed to have no kind of worries, and felt a lot more playful and laid back than the dope dealers or gang leaders that we saw.
As a whole, most of us never actually looked up to pimps, or aspired to be one. And we knew they were completely wrong. It was something like a fantasy world that we separated from our true morals. ------------------------------
