"Will/Do/have you ever loaned money to family? "

I hear people swear that Blood is thicker than water, but not when it comes to money? And I know people that will loan funds to family in a heartbeat. I also know about instances where Money has ended loving relationships, but that's not always the case.

So with that said, what's you're response, take, attitude or position on the matter of loaning money to family?

Each case is completely different, but I give it with the thought that I may never see it again and I'm okay with that.

Family always hits me up cuz they *perceive* me to be living large like a huxtable.

I've said no a few times too, like when my crackhead bro in law asked for money to pay parking tickets...mostly cuz he has no way to pay me back, and no intention of fixing his 'riding dirty' status...that car gonna get impounded again in due time, seemed like a waste of money.

Conversely, I had an older cousin write a letter to ALL family members, explaining how she had been struggling since being laid off from a nice paying gig, she had depleted her savings and had a few job offers in the works, but needed any kind of bump to get her though the next few months of bills, travel for interviews, etc....she laid out a timeline for payback and was completely transparent about the whole thing.

I had no problem handing her a G, even if I don't see it again.

you don't have to pay me back mindset (family friend or otherwise). The Banks and other financial institutions are not going to give people money, they're going to loan people money and they expect to get its funds back. And for that fact people and banks usually don't have bad relationships. But money will tear a family up even if there's this mindset of "I don't expect to get paid back."

But somehow con artist have bamboozled black folks into this don't loan money and expect to get it back. Go to court and that jude will tell you that's NOT a loan - it's a gift.

Just because the loan is never repaid, and the lender doesn't seek it back, doesn't mean its not a loan. It just means that the loan was never satisfied and there were no penalties discussed.

Lol @ a bank and people not having bad relationships. Huh?

I don't know what you are talking about as far as con artist and bamboozling but most people that live by the philosophy we are discussing never lend more than they can afford to lose and will never loan that person that money twice. That person can't really ask for money again, bc they still owe you.

it's a GIFT. Y'all can argue the contrary all day. But Go to court and tell the Judge that "I had no expectation to get paid back on my loan to XYZ". The judge will call it a gift and toss your case out.

why are you suing in court lol?

Secondly, A lends person B money. They agree that B will pay back full total in 2 months. A knows that B is a crack whore and will likely not pay the money back.

The above is a loan no matter how you slice it.
