"What's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten?"

I wanna say horse, from when I was in Switzerland.

or

a grilled rattlesnake and nutria poboy when I was in New Orleans (it was delicious, my wife's great uncle made it and I had no idea what it was until i said THAT CHICKEN POBOY WAS AMAZING and everybody started laughing at me).

My ex's mother used to do Quail most weeks and Rabbit Stew is one of my go-tos for special occasions. Maybe I'm just conditioned now.

Grasshoppers, now we're talking.

I don't think I've ever intentionally eaten an insect, but I'd definitely like to give it a try.

aside from damn near every part of the pig or cow. Rabbit, snake, turtle, quail, kangaroo, ostrich, and gator. No bugs though. My little brother has eaten all kinds of bugs. He went to survival school in the military and said he ate several bugs and almost had to resort to drinking his urine. He probably would win this thread.

Which was anticlimactic, because I didn't scream or anything. It just burned on the way down. But driving from there to the movies, I had to stand up because I felt like the whale who swallowed Wolverine instead of Jonah by accident. Pulled over in a parking lot, retched uncontrollably for about ten min.

Then I went to see A Christmas Carol in 3-d. Not sure which was worse.

Cuttlefish isn't that uncommon, I guess, but my companions side-eyed the shit out of my plate when it arrived one time. Needs to be cooked fresh and very carefully to avoid it assuming the texture of a ball of rubber bands.

Trip to Finland was an eye opener... Reindeer was definitely a highlight. Bear accidentally happened too (I assume Brown Bear), it was on a taster menu and was delicious enough that I didn't start feeling guilty until after we got back to our cabin.

Seriously though, bears taste GOOD.

I don't think it's possible anymore (certainly not ethically) but I've always wanted to try Giant Tortoise from the Galapagos. Apparently one of the reasons they went from ~300,000 in the wild to 3,000 was because they were so fucking delicious. Apparently people even tried bringing them back to Britain on ships to study at home, but couldn't resist eating them during the journey so none ever made it!

usually see it descriibed as Sea Pineapple, but I do believe it's a squirt of one sort or another.

After it was described to me as tasting like salt flavored jello, I wasn't really interested. Also didn't live near the coast so I didn't have access regularly even if I'd wanted to.

In response to Reply # 0

Kind of amusing actually as I was told before the toast that it was red wine. It clearly wasn't. Discussion after the toast concluded it was supponshu, sake made with the blood of a 'suppon' which was described to me as like a 'kame' (which I knew was a turtle) but with BIG JAWS.

Same meal also featured (raw) wild duck breast sushi, (raw) deer sashimi, and insects that were either inago (locusts) or bata (grasshopper) that as I recall had been blanched and then flash fried in a soy sauce and sugar mixture, so they were crispy, salty and sweet.

More recently I've eaten bugs every year taking my kids to Bug Fest at their favorite museum, too: chocolate chirp cookies (with roasted crickets), Cajun fried crickets, red beans and mealworms, roasted waxworms. A guy there makes dragonflies every year as well but only a few and I haven't gotten lucky enough to have one.

I ate the fruit in Thailand. It smells HORRIBLE and like the article says, you either love it or hate it. I am in no rush to try it again.

I had to eat it outside because most hotels and office buildings will not allow it on the premises.
