Dr Claw was speaking my mind when he said we're so lucky right now with the material that is dropping. To have both at the same time and that Earl Sweatshirt is really a luxury.

But I get about one album in every round decade that hits me as much as 2PAB.

Discussions of <>= do not matter to me in music like that. I just care about what I like, not what's objectively better.

Just IMO though.

He hits the mark sometimes, but fails most of the time.
T&Y is no exception.
Also the musical landscape of TPAB>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>(to infinity) T&Y

The make up and DNA of TPAB >>> T&Y in every way. The only place Lupe wins is
rappity rapping. He might as well be a glorified battle rapper. Yet, he's too poetic
and goes over too many heads with layered punchlines to win in that arena.
I definitely think he's in a class of his own as far as rapping, but he ain't seeing Kendrick
because he's incapable of connecting like that. He just goes for amazing you from his cloud.
Even if you love him you know that's true, lol.

But I know this is OKP. If TPAB got no shine and wasn't the critical darling and big seller
that it is, yal niggas would swear it's the best thing since gluten free bread.
Just admit it... it's the best Hip Hop album in a looooong time.

you have listened to T & Y thoroughly? Cuz, I wouldn't classify what Lupe is doing on there as "rappity rap". I understand, though, that we could have different definitions of that term.

A pretty big one actually. I describe him as one of the few professional rappers to ever rap,
so I try to listen to everything he does.
That said, the most praised song on there (Mural) is the definition of rappity rap.
I fux with Lupe's rappity rap due to the fact that it's actually about something.

see, I make the distinction of rappity rap to if a cat is just rhyming tight but it aint about shit. Like...some Eminem battle rap battle shit. But, I feel you, overall.

it has nothing to do with KL's popularity or Lupes rappity raps.

pound for pound, track for track, T&Y is better.

but I also think GKMC is better than TPAB

For me it comes down to
lyrics
production
and replay value

Both are masterpieces but
I have to say that the production on TPAB is more my lane
its almost too good. When I hear that album I always end up
thinking, Can I Get an Instru Album pleeeease. It detracts
from Kendricks performance a bit.

Both are great lyricists but Lupe is in another a galaxy.
I know to each his own but for me if Im not hearing anything
new on each listen I lose interest, quickly.
With Tetsuo there are some songs where Lupe is rapping about
multiple subjects all at the same time. Lupe mastery of language
and lyricism is unparalleled period.
With Kendrick I was drawn in on the first spin
but at this point Im left wanting more, not say that I wont revisit at some point.

The replay value for me goes to Tetsuo and thats primarily
based on account of Lupes abilities.
I feel like if I had a TPAB inst album Im pretty sure
that I would play that more than the album itself.

But really we should be happy we have two masterpiece albums
that are speaking to the socially relevant issues. Hopefully this
is a trend that gathers steam among even the most
commercially viable Black artists

Okay....start with the only listenable song on Tetsuo and Youth is the 1st song with the Cortex Bleu sample.

The rest of that shit is sad, emo bullshit. AND I'M FROM CHICAGO

Trust me, I went into that shit wanting it to be the greatest album ever. I even listened to the 1st 6 tracks (which went progressively downhill) before I completely wrote the nigga off. That's how strong the opener is.

But let's be real...in concept...in execution....in track choice...in features and collaborators.....it is SEVERELY inferior to To Pimp A Butterfly....

You are entitled to your opinion on the shit...but just be sure that the only people you'll be able to debate and fellowship with about how much doper Tetsuo & Youth are will be fellow members of this site.

Descriptive enough?

one is a great collection of visualizations.

the other is a great narrative about a relevant coming of rage story.

to each his own, and though I see both as masterpieces, I give Kendrick the nod because to me what he did was much harder to achieve.

and I say this saying after hearing T&Y that there was NO way Kendrick was going to top it....and then he did.

This is me all the way. I said nobody would top T&Y this year. Then BAM! TPAB gets the nod. I love both albums though.

I think Kendrick had a heavier task to endure. I don't know if it's harder to come with a great album after dropping some doo-doo, or dropping a classic. Kendrick is in the latter category, and I honestly wasn't really hype about the material leading into it. on "release" day, I decided to check it out, and Wee Bey face all the way.

that album was so good it had me pulling out all of Kendrick's back catalog.

Still some corny hooks for Becky and Hannah but they aren't all over the place.
"Deliver", for instance, gets it right.

As a warning and as a lament. Interesting how small things some communities take for granted, like getting a pizza delivered, are off limits to others. Shines an even greater light on the big things (education, healthcare, economic opportunity).

Streets won't let me chill.

He gave his fans, and some who stopped following him, the album they've been waiting for (from him)... and Murals

With that being said, I think Kendrick's project as a whole is better... The narrative along with parallel stories, relevance and overall sound (Jazz/funk) has made this one of his best projects (if not, the best)... Definitely better than GKMC...
