company A extends an offer, all of this is contingent on passing a background check. i passed the initial pre-screen background check but, the other part of the check doesn't start until after the set start date (public trust position). i'm not sure if i can pass a public trust check (i'm no angel). company A wants me to put in my notice to my current employer. i'm anxious though, what happens if i put in notice to current employer and for whatever reason i'm unable to pass the public trust check? it's great that i have options but, i could easily be out of job in no time.

these federal contracting companies usually wait until after you start to begin the real background check process and the timeline of the process depends on the agency. could be a couple of months or year(s). i could take a chance, put in the notice, start working for company A and continue to look for stuff while the process is going on in the background.

see what they suggest? They likely don't want to waste 2-4 weeks on you starting the job, having to get rid of you, and start the hiring process all over again anyway.
-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

...but if you just have some arrests, old stuff and things where charges were dropped, you'll most likely be okay. ______________________________________________________________________________
