"Porn viewers, are you addicted to porn? "

When I ask porn viewers that question (are you addicted to porn?) only those who are truly honest can admit their addiction without any excuse. Some will admit the addiction but on in conjunction with some kind of excuse such, as 'It's harmless enjoyment'. Then there are those who will out right deny the addiction and say that there is no need for such a label. But what they all have in common is that they cannot stop watching porn. They can't quit cold turkey, because porn rules part of their life. Sure, some can go a few day, but they'll find themselves right back in front of the screen because they are addicts (recognized or in denial).

So, if you watch porn, are you addicted? Yes or No.

Or listening to music

Just go ahead and have the conversation you want to have on whether watching any porn is good or bad

Because what you described wasn't necessarily addiction or bad unless you believe that watching any porn is bad, and you obviously feel that watching any porn is bad

So Rev lay out the reasoning for why we should not watch porn

(Btw I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with you)

Real talk, I've laid out the issues of watching porn before in detail, but today I'm just looking for a quick yes or no.

Porn Addiction Symptoms – How Porn Morphs Your Brain
Porn Addiction Symptoms

Did you know that erectile dysfunction is the most common reason that young men decide to stop looking at porn?

And this isn’t any normal ED we’re talking about either… ED from Internet porn addiction is completely untreatable. Viagra won’t work because the problem is in your brain, not below the belt.

As you continue reading, you’ll learn that erectile dysfunction isn’t the only or even the worst porn addiction symptom. But first, let’s talk about why excessive porn use leads to addiction:

Why is Porn Addictive?
Since you’re here reading this, obviously you know that porn is addictive. But do you know why?

If you haven’t already, watch this quick 10-minute TED Talk called The Great Porn Experiment by Gary Wilson about the effects of porn on your brain:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSF82AwSDiU
Basically, your brain reacts the same way to porn as it does to meth, heroin or crack. Here’s exactly how the addiction forms:

Step-by-Step Porn Addiction Process:
You look at a pornographic image or video.
Your brain believes that you’re looking at a potential mate, so it releases the “happy chemical”, Dopamine.
Dopamine makes you feel good and gives your brain the drive to finish mating.
Because the Internet provides you with an unlimited supply of fresh mates, your brain tells you to binge like a rabbit during mating season.
When you “finish”, you’re completely exhausted as your brain tries to process the extreme amounts of Dopamine.
Now, if you stopped right here and never looked at porn again, you’d be fine.

But you don’t.

If you’re anything like most men, you were first exposed at a young age and have looked at porn ever since. So, here’s what happens next as your brain reacts to chronic porn use:

The Effects of Chronic Porn Use:
After several months (or even years), your brain becomes desensitized to the Dopamine you’re flooding it with.
In order to maintain long-term sensitivity to Dopamine, your brain produces a protein called Delta Fos-B (pronounced fawz-be).
After the first time your brain makes Delta Fos-B, it’ll keep producing more with each cumulative porn use.
Over time, multiple layers of Delta Fos-B accumulate inside your brain’s “pleasure center”, the Nucleus Ambens.
As it builds up, Delta Fos-B creates a compulsive response in your brain that makes you feel like you need Dopamine.
Your brain associates Dopamine with porn, and so therefore that need for Dopamine becomes a need for porn.
And that’s when you’re addicted.

The more Delta Fos-B that’s stored in your brain’s Nucleus Ambens, the stronger your compulsion for Dopamine will be. This process explains where your porn cravings come from and why they grow stronger over time.

How Long Does it Take Your Brain to Rewire?
In most cases, Delta Fos-B will stick around in your brain for about eight weeks. However, every time you’re exposed to porn, you reset that timer AND you make your cravings stronger than they were before.

Scientists still don’t understand everything about Delta Fos-B or the neurochemical process behind addiction. All we know for sure is that it takes a minimum of eight weeks for your brain to clean itself and go back to normal.

Fun Fact: The younger you are, the longer it will take your brain to cleanse Delta Fos-B. If you’re younger than 30, it could take up to 16 weeks before your brain is back to normal.

Common Porn Addiction Symptoms
We already said at the beginning of this post that a common symptom of porn addiction is erectile dysfunction. This is because porn desensitizes your brain to normal sexual activity. So, even if you can get hard enough for intercourse, most addicted men will struggle to climax from real-life sex.

However, most porn addiction symptoms actually aren’t physical. Here are some of the most commonly cited symptoms in men today:

ADHD or an inability to concentrate
Depression
Mood swings
Anti-social behavior or social anxiety
Performance anxiety
Obsessive tendencies
Disinterest in real women
An escalating need for more extreme or taboo porn
Mental fogginess
Loss of willpower or discipline
Zombie-like feeling, especially during the afternoon
Grumpiness or irritability
Constant feeling of guilt or fear
Notice that these symptoms are completely different from . These are only the symptoms you’ll notice WHILE you’re addicted, although they may continue until your brain resets back to normal.

Recommended: The Possible Pitfalls of Porn @ The Art of Manliness

Hopefully by now you see just how serious porn addiction is. The chemicals that your brain creates when you use porn – Dopamine and Delta Fos-B – are the exact same ones it creates when you use cocaine or meth.

This is why it’s so difficult to stop looking at porn. You’ll need the same strength of will as a junky in rehab, except you’re the only one in control of your recovery.

But trust me as someone who’s been there – when you’re finally free of your addiction, you’ll look back and say that all the pain of quitting was worth it.

I beat it, and you will too!

If you have any further questions, you can go back to for more help.

Dude I didn't say it couldnt be an addiction but it's more in line with a compulsive behavior addiction than a physical addiction like the definition you gave.

But you feel that watching it at all is a problem which is ok to have that opinion but just be honest about what you are asking about.

Just ask do you watch porn regularly? And do you think it causes problems in your life?

You say we should answer "yes" or "no" but earlier, you write this:

>When I ask porn viewers that question (are you addicted to
>porn?) only those who are truly honest can admit their
>addiction without any excuse. Some will admit the addiction
>but on in conjunction with some kind of excuse such, as 'It's
>harmless enjoyment'. Then there are those who will out right
>deny the addiction and say that there is no need for such a
>label. But what they all have in common is that they cannot
>stop watching porn. They can't quit cold turkey, because porn
>rules part of their life. Sure, some can go a few day, but
>they'll find themselves right back in front of the screen
>because they are addicts (recognized or in denial).
>
>So, if you watch porn, are you addicted? Yes or No.

Apparently, even if you can go days (months? years?) without watching porn, you are still an addict if you don't quit cold turkey, that's more-or-less what you imply. Thus, is it even possible to watch porn, no matter how infrequently, without being an addict as defined by you above? Apparently not since you state that those who answer "no" and still watch porn are in denial about their addiction...

it's like if you watch soap operas every afternoon or go for a walk in the woods before work, now you're ADDICTED. you do it EVERY DAY. you CAN'T STOP. sometimes maybe your soaps get preempted by a car chase or a speech from the president. some days it snows and gets windy. BUT THEN YOU'RE BACK OUT THERE.

there is a difference between a passing interest, a hobby, a habit and an addiction. more and more we want to label everything as an addiction. i don't get that.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

why not just ask a simple question? Why add the judgemental drivel? Is it in order to "shame" people into answering "yes"? What type of power-balance do you expect to arise out of a conversation where you point fingers and accuse others of "deflecting" and "denying" while simultaneously only expecting a "straight" answer? How does that make sense? It's stupid, no offense...

You should probably be more sensitive to what he's going through.

See. Case_One is a big Game of Thrones fan. From my days of being a seriously devout Christian, I know that this series is a huge no-no for any likewise seriously devout Christian because of the unholy quadrilogy.

In order of depravity:

1. Gay porn

2. Witchcraft

3. Normal porn

4. Gratuitous Violence

Case_One is clearly addicted to the show. He might try to deny it, but we know any such denial would be delusional. But he knows this show has a stronghold on his life, as no doubt any other show does that involves nudity that he's still watching.

I can't help the poor guy any more because he sees me as the devil, but maybe the rest of you have a shot at getting through to him. After all, we family. Help the poor boy out.

Just IMO though.

The kids right now too young to remember a time before the Internet. Before you could search for any kind of porn you want

That access. During an age where you're discovering your sexuality -- I think porn can stunt these young boy's brains into a false sense of what sex is. You jerk off enough with your computer screen and hand and it can come to replace a natural state of arousal that only comes with feeling a woman's touch

Porn-induced erectile dysfunction is real. Google if u wanna learn more
