"New York is extremely sexist"
Sun Apr-26-15 02:38 PM by Starks dunked on Bul

And strangely enough, I think the women like it that way. New York dudes openly put women down, openly critique/rate them, or put them in their place. I'm from Jersey so being back in NY this is new to me. In New Jersey its not like that at all. In NY, it feels like the 1950s, on some Honeymooners. In the city, a man will look strange if he gives too much "power" to a woman. If you go to tourist parts of the city you probably wont notice it though.

I'm taken aback by it all. Numerous times I'm like "Wait, what?"

*shrugs*

I was on the train early this morning on the way to church and some dude was taking a nap on a whole of seats. And he woke up at 125th street and saw this woman sitting beside where I was standing and started going IN about how fine she was and shit. Derailed quickly into statements and gestures, dude reaching down his pants and shit.

I can't speak for her but she didn't look like she enjoyed it.

And I dont mean they like getting less opportunity and less pay. But in terms of the way men communicate/flirt with women, I think they like it. They like guys being neanderthals/cavemen, or at least they've grown accustomed to it.

Real life is something else. Maybe you're right. Maybe they dont like it, but I think they're more likely to "playball." Like I said, I think they've grown accustomed to it.

In the gentrified/tourist areas of NY, there's less sexism.

I'm not knocking Black/Spanish/Ethnic/Foreign people. I'm just saying its part of the culture. You will even see sexism in the gentrified/tourist areas because NY is a melting pot. I'm just surprised by it all. I don't know what I said that was so bad.

I've been up here civilizing the miscreants and whatnot. These NY niggas don't know nothing bout Chivalry except she gets off at the 103rd Street stop on the 6. I gotta school, then teach them that chivalry itself is still a fucked up concept. Somewhere in there they will learn manners.....or not.

Lol so far so good tho. Yall deli sandwiches got me convinced that there's things to be redeemed in this city.

On the 6 train. I think the nature of being a city with a subway causes a fair amount of chaos. It's too much license for contact with others.

Japan, India, NYC. We need more personal space than our major metropolitan public transportation can provide. Because men.

I will admit, both guys I stopped were homeless looking, addled, mentally unstable from a distance. It speaks a little to the psychiatric condition of the population as well. We can't screen passengers. As a result, I avoid trains and buses like the plague whenever possible.

But by Gandhi precedent, if everybody else feels like me, drives everywhere to avoid the crazies, we kill the planet.

It's a catch-22.

Or, I should say, the older orange seated trains. Three broad-shouldered men can't comfortably sit next to each other on those.

It's entirely too easy to push someone onto the tracks.

Basically, the NYC subway system needs to be burned and started over with the pods from Logans Run.

Then we'll be fine.
