"surprise!! Gwynneth Paltrow fails foodstamp challenge after 4 days."

Smh at her grocery list.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2015/04/17/a-hungry-gwyneth-paltrow-fails-the-food-stamp-challenge-four-days-in/?tid=pm_national_pop_b

"Indeed, Paltrow’s grocery list was a little unusual given the task. She came home with a dozen eggs, some black beans and brown rice, and an array of fruits and veggies — including a baffling number of limes. Seven"

Kudos for trying to bring attention to a problem but c'mon. 7 fresh limes? She went into this challenge with no intentions of folloqing through.

Where was the spaghetti, Egg noodles, chicken legs or thighs, soup, etc?

so she took the challenge as "could Gwyneth Paltrow live on snap, which turned out as facepalmworthy as one would expecct.
she's trying to do something good, but she has no actual concept of how regular people live. when i say regular people, i mean people who don't steam their vagina and name their kids 'Apple'

This reminded me I need to get more limes. I ran out. I use about 7/8 a week. I take one lemon and two limes and squeeze out all the juice. Then add salt. Stir and wait about five min...

Then I pour the juice in a shot glass and take shots or sip a shot. Probably two to three shots in one sitting.

It's so good but you have to brush your teeth. All that citric acid can hurt your teeth if it sits too long.

I try to do that no more than 2-4 times a week but its hard to stop because it has helped me so much.

That's about what id buy rice beans eggs and vegetables. It should have been frozen fruits and vegetables though with the difference being used to buy a whole chicken. But if she did that and succeeded in making it then people would have been mad too.

That $29 isn't meant to completely support a family. It is a subsidy. It is assumed that you have other income and this is just additional assistance.

If you have absolutely no income, you get a lot more than $29 bucks

that was healthy with the alotted amount and then concluded that she couldn't continue...that's the point.

if she had gone out and bought the bag of potatos, $1 pasta and all the cheap unhealthy stuff that people end up buying to stretch the money and said, 'see, i made the $29 stretch' then i could see people going in because that's not how she eats.

criticizing this woman... $29 a week is bullshit.. Sure u could eat beans and rice and some veggies and survive but that shit would get old real quick. Spices which are a requirement to make anything taste good tend to be expensive as hell...and not entirely affordable on this budget unless u have access to a farmers market.

Her goal was to speak out again income inequality yet some of ya'll are fixated on limes.. really ?? LMAO!!

Whats that phrase some of ya'll like to use... "stay woke, playa!"

if you are going to take the challenge. Take the time to touch on all those points you just listed. She could talk about food stamp cuts, lack of affordable fresh food, lack of fresh food in the hood, etc...

instead she rushed to fail to talk about something totally different.

It doesn't come off sincere at all and this is why so many people are like "this rich fake bish.."

It's like someone acting like they are going to take the ice water challenge and then spinning it to talk about the drought in california or lack of fresh water in 3rd world countries.

all she proved is she can't eat how she eats on that budget

there's no way she was finna put typical american food in her stomach. lol.

i think she really tried to see if she could eat how she normally eats on the food stamp budget and she did fail and it does say something about trying to eat in a "healthy" way. i air quote that b/c i read an article where a nutritionist basically said that food she bought, spread out over a week, would only be 1000 calories a day, which is probably why she failed (im sure she works out and takes more in even as skinny as she is) and why she wasn't being realistic. someone on food stamps is likely also working and not only that, they are working crazy hours. they'd be passed out on such little food.

and the food she chose require more prep than most people have b/c they work so much. dried black beans can take hours. you can shave most of that down by soaking overnight but then you need the time the following day to cook them, which could still take another hour.

it would be interesting policy to see some sort of initial allowance/voucher for ppl to perhaps buy an appliance that could help them prepare food/cook better but that's too progressive! lol. someone w/ a crock pot could get their 79 cent bag of dried beans on like a champ

but the way these idiot conservatives are talking they're only going to let folks on food stamps buy bread and ketchup once theyre done restricting purchases

providing some sort of "package" of things like olive oil and a good spice inventory. not anything crazy. im not saying give everyone a jar of garam masala but maybe cayenne? cumin?

that stuff is expensive and can easily eat into your food budget

that would be a cool program to launch locally if one can get the seed money together.

give ppl a blender, a crockpot, some basic non perishable staples (oils and dried herbs/spices). teach them how they can prepare better meals with that shitty ass $29 budget that won't suck up their time. someone working 2 jobs can't really find the time to be making them paltrow meals but a nice stew made overnight or during the work day w/ them beans and potatoes and throw some chicken thighs in? that could work.

food is another area i have a passion for but no time to get into. lol. i used to volunteer at a farmer's market but i moved away.

I have to double check the precise year but the FPL number we use in our determinations is from the 90's. Further, determinations are based on gross income, though there's also a net test as well. They've accommodated the badly outdated FPL through the creation of programs based on multiple FPL levels. The max right now is 200% of the outdated FPL using gross income amounts.

So not only are the awards too low, the budgeting is outdated and badly in need of reevaluation.
