for one, that's seen as a direct threat. Standing straight up is as well, so people in the field have said that crouching or balling up in the fetal position works as well. Making as little sound as possible is a good thing, considering they communicate through grunts and any sort of sudden noise is interpreted as being hostile.

My fight or flight leans heavily in the "flight" direction.

I had to watch this 3 times because of a comment. The second time, I focused on the little boy. The third time, I checked that other gorilla.

picks up an object moments before running to the glass to smash it.

he picks it up...cups it underhanded and take a few steps and lunges at the glass.

we're talking about a cat that can run from 0 - 60 in damn near seconds and you expect me to think that given the pic above that the cat cant jump 14 feet and then scale whats left of the embankment and then over a 4 ft electric fence.

16. "Reminds me of Bokito"
In response to Reply # 0

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokito_(gorilla)

Bokito (born March 14, 1996) is a male Western Gorilla born in captivity. Currently living in Diergaarde Blijdorp zoo in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

On May 18, 2007, Bokito jumped over the ditch that separated his Rotterdam enclosure from the public and violently attacked a woman, dragging her around for tens of metres and inflicting bone fractures as well as more than a hundred bite wounds. He subsequently entered the nearby restaurant, causing panic among the visitors. During this encounter, three more people were injured as a result of the panic. Bokito was eventually sedated with the help of a tranquilizer gun and placed back in his cage.

The woman who was attacked had been a regular visitor to the great apes' enclosure, visiting an average of four times per week. She had a habit of touching the glass that separated her from the gorillas, while making eye contact with Bokito and smiling at him — a practice that is discouraged byprimatologists, as apes are likely to interpret human smiling as a form of aggressive display. Zoo employees had previously warned her against doing this, but she continued, claiming a special bond with him: in an interview with De Telegraaf she said, "If I smile at him, he smiles back".

Zoology tends to promote animal conservation efforts by collecting scientific data on the animals biology, psychology and behavior that can be used by biologists and conservationists and other scientists who are working with animals in the wild. Plus zoos allow ppl to get up close with the animals which can inspire them to work with or donate money to various conservation efforts.

But I am too depressed seeing animals caged and cooped up like that so I don't go anymore.

fuck you.

cause i see the educational aspect of it. and seeing an animal in person can really "Catch" a child and provide that spark into maybe pursuing something they love

the ones with the more well thought out habitat i appreciate. We have this big "aquarium" in dallas but its really a massive multi story green house complete with a rain forest inside. All the animals just kinda chillin in the trees everywhere you go. Of course some things are in tanks and what not but atleast it seems like something these guys would be in if they were home

I had to be 5 and I remember it clear as day. That bamma hit the glass and it sounded like a cannon went off in the ape house. Clearly he had been lifting weights. Everyone screamed and ran, kids were everywhere. The glass didn't break but I learned on that day don't disrespect gorillas.

most sorrowful shit ever
animals just looking defeated and depressed
and the ones that looked lively looked like they were looking for the weak links in the barriers
I was legit nervous. Like, these motherfuckers are seriously trying to get out. Watch they find a way while I'm in this hoe.

In response to Reply # 0

They interviewed a zoo employee on the local news. It apparently happens fairly regularly that they have to replace the glass. Sometimes it just cracks in the middle of the night from the foundation settling. So there's absolutely no danger from this. The kids were apparently shook up though.

At 2:45, Gorilla was like "ok young'n slow ya roll"

In the wild Silverbacks tend to be incredibly tolerant of humans. In comparison you will rarely see humans spending anytime around full grown chimps, those fools are buck wild and brutal as hell, much akin to sociopaths..

Silverbacks are like incredibly strong and wise elderly people, just don't fuck with them.
