"South African xenophobia: Is this a big issue over there?"
Based on this clip, cats are gettin' plenty mad about jobs allegedly gettin' taken away from them due to foreigners. How severe is this issue on both sides and do you see the conflict erupting into something worse in the future? Are the folks complaining, according to one of the jokey comments in the link, the "rednecks of Africa"?

When apartheid was hunting South Africans, they found safer haven in those southern Africans for many years. Just like on most blocks in the U.S. folks are angry at the wrong folks.
It is a serious issue that will continue to grow as until the ANC deals with land reclamation issue. TRC was cool but cannot feed or house folks!

At the same time, there was a (more enlightened?) movement to tear down the statues of Rhodes and all the old colonialists White south Africans got mad Rhodes statue was knocked down, but the police protected the other statues
A month or so back a zulu community leader said all foreigners should be kicked out
Not sure of that was intended to mean other Africans as well
But that is when everything seemed to kick off, far as i can tell
Now various African countries are issuing warnings or telling their citizens to leave SA
Whole situation is sad, starting with the fact apartheid has been gone 20 yrs, but euros still got all the money and poor people fed up

Sounds like a case of cats forgetting where they came from. I was thinking the foreigners they were griping about were namely White European folks coming over and making all the money while they as citizens are scrapping for crumbs. I'm assuming the folks they're attacking are pretty much in the same boat as them. Correct?

I know it's a serious situation over there but that quote made me laff.

It's hard to take their gripe seriously if they can't take the fight against the ones whom are really the oppressors but can have the balls to fight against the ones whom probably would've been on their side if anything.
