no one works on their birthday if they don't have too...I have never, ever worked on my birthday. Not even when I was an hourly employee. Shit I'd work on Christmas before I'd work on my birthday. that's MY day.
at my old job, your birthday was a holiday. so everyone would get that day off regardless. if it fell on the weekend, you could have that friday or the monday off. your choice.
but nah yo, this isn't an instance of normal vs abnormal, this is just personal preference. some ppl choose to do this and some don't.

No.I dunno what's so difficult to understand.
It tends to be a month filled with a series of smaller celebratory activities. One year for my wife we did dinner at Benihanas with her friends one night, Pirate Dinner Adventure another night, a trip to Sea World one weekend, random flowers and small gifts throughout the month (books, shoes, shit like that), and a small party with her mother, stepfather, best friend and her family.
It's not rocket science. You plan a couple of events and litter the month with small acts of affection, fun, and surprises.
This is the second subject like this where you show how much of a neanderthal you are.

They're going to have a bunch of events and you've gotta go to at least a couple of them. You can't be as picky as the everybody else who gets to choose what's most convenient to them.
Even worse if they're birthday week falls into a holiday because now that holiday is always booked up with their events.

Life should be celebrated and enjoyed. I celebrate with my friends and family. Not everyone can convene at the same time, so who cares if I stretch it out over a couple/few weeks? Birthdays are special and I try to do what I can to help make others' special too, be they my family, friends, or people I'm serving at work.

basically the day of its just me and my wife and son. Lately it has ended up in doing some activity for my son. Then my mom usually wants to do dinner with my brothers and a couple of cousins that Saturday. Then Sunday my wife's parents want to take me out for dinner.

we've taken Christmas from just that day or maybe that day and the Eve to running it from the day after Thanksgiving to December 26. that's a fucking month. and i think that just started throwing everything out of wack. --------------------------------------- it's true what they say...people are strange, when you're strangers.

And I worked throughout today (still working) So it barely feels like my birthday I'm never doing this again if I can help it. Tried to play it low key. Not feeling it at all...lol
* Birthday week mostly consists of me taking the day itself off, spoiling myself solo (spa and shopping...i know it sounds gay buy heeeeeyyy), going to see a DJ like Spinna or Giles Peterson on one of the days, being treated to lunch or dinner by three different friends and lastly having a house party that spills out onto a club when the people with kids go home. Sex is optional but always a welcome development.
