and move to smack because it's cheaper/stronger. Most people aren't going straight to heroin. The do it because they're already junkies.

It's pretty standard fare in my own personal experience (I've never done it but many people I know have), and seems to be well documented everywhere.

I thought you were using "believe" to say "I think it's a myth that many heroin users start out using pills"...sounds like you were saying "I don't think the people I know started off using pills." Correct me if I'm wrong.

Either way I'm from the east coast where, as you touched on, it seems to be the most common sequence of events.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_prescription

A prescription (℞) is a health-care program implemented by a physician or other qualified practitioner in the form of instructions that govern the plan of care for an individual patient.

if i meant to say prescription pill i would have said prescription pill not prescription.

the exact same way dude. But it's well documented that in certain areas of the country, heroin has seen a major spike in usage specifically as a result of people looking for cheaper, easier highs following a prescription drug addiction.

Anyway I'm not even really sure the point you're trying to make. You're making it sound like you're rallying against the fact above about how many heroin addicts got there by previously having been addicted to pain killers. Whether they used the pain killers recreationally or were prescribed them for an injury really isn't the point here, so your comment about kids just "wanting to get high" is really irrelevant to the conversation. No one said they didn't want to get high.

but I've taken oxycontin a gazillion times. And there isn't really that much of a difference between the two.

And you probably know hundreds of people that have used oxycontin.

If you're worried about your sister.....here are tell-tale signs that someone is high on opiates:

small pupils.

low, croaky voice. Slow talking. A general laziness in speech.

Body slumped over. An unwillingness to move quickly or sit up straight.

It's really common for the eyes to look like the person is half-asleep but their eyebrows are pulled back high. Almost like the way a person looks when they're half-asleep and surprised at the same time.

If the person is coming off it (or is jones'ing) the most obvious signs are a runny nose and watering eyes. That shit is like clockwork and will even happen the day after for a first-time user. Muscles will be stiff and locked. For moderate users....It's very similar to a flu. Alot of doctor-prescribed opiate users will think they caught a cold or a flu when their prescription runs out when really it's withdrawal.

I'll guarantee that your eyes were watery and you were yawning alot (another clockwork symptom) the day after you stopped doing it. But since it's not accompanied by any other, more serious symptoms....you just didn't connect the dots or take notice. You were probably a little stiff too.

I've kicked 4 different times. The first two weren't hard at all. It was basically like having the flu for 3 or 4 days. But that was only having low levels of use over a few months.

The third time I kicked I had been using daily for around 7/8 months. That was my first introduction to 'real' opiate withdrawal. It friggin sucked. The fourth time was even worse. Two weeks of hell. Vomitting, sweating profusely, involuntary body convulsions, no sleep. Started feeling better around day 16/17. I was always a low-amount user though. Around 30 bucks per day on average. Didn't use methadone and didn't check into a facility. Just took the first week off work and cancelled all commitments

In response to Reply # 9

In relative terms. It's one of the cheapest drugs available. Much cheaper than coke. More expensive than meth. But it also has a very steep tolerance curve so it becomes expensive as time goes on.

Street heroin is less than half the price of pharma opiates like oxy.

Yes, heroin is much more expensive by weight. But you need very little heroin to get high and stay high for long periods of time. So in terms of 'use'.....a recreational coke user will spend ALOT more money than a recreational heroin user.

21. "oxycodone or oxycontin?"
In response to Reply # 9

I never tried oxycontin, so I was always curious if there was much difference.
Oxycodone (percs) I've fucked with too many times. That feeling when they kick in is just "this is how I want to feel all the time". I fucked with opiates for years pretty much daily until it got kind of ridiculous. Another reason I've always been terrified of heroin. I'm pretty sure it would be a wrap for me

Oxycodone.

The two main differences is that 1. Oxycontin is designed to slow-release over a longer period of time. 2. Percs are mostly made up of aspirin. So in that sense....oxy's are much more 'pure'.

So suppose someone wanted to get really, really effed up on oxycodone. 80 mg should do it. So you could get that much by taking 8 percs (10 mg each.....about $40 street value) or you could simply take an 80mg oxy pill (about $55 street value).

At first glance....it appears that you can get the same high from percs for $15 less. The problem though.....is that there is sooooo much aspirin in the percs that it's gonna eff with your stomach and also eff with your high. So you pay more for the 80mg oxy pill so that you get a purer source of oxycodone. Not to mention....your swalling one medium-sized pill instead of 8 huge ones. And percs are HUGE because of how much aspirin they contain.

a few of my best friends used to regularly drop hundreds of dollars a week on pills, "luckily"****** one of them was dating a dude that had been in the military and had a good enough hook up to overdose and kill himself and she's mostly off that now unless she's stumbles across something, and she usually cracks those in half and does them days apart.

but the acquaintance was just a kind of interesting local musician that sold a bunch of his equipment for heroin, I still see him playing shows though so he must have gotten back on his feet.

I also know I could never try it, everything I swore I wouldn't do as a kid because I'd get addicted to it I've gotten addicted to it, from pizza to liquor to coke. I just can't afford coke regularly, but when I know it's around I really start scheming on my wallet until my social anxiety talks me out of asking.

Pills meanwhile just don't appeal to me, it's easy and I get that but I didn't take a pill for sickness until I was 20 or 21 and I still generally prefer to just ride a headache out rather than pop a pill. The way I swallow I have to push the pill past my tongue which is just a dumb look in public and an uncomfortable move at all times, especially with a fat one.

but pills are crazy easy to get here. i'm always given oxy for minor stuff. so i'm not surprised there are a ton of pill poppers.

A family friend used it for a while, he ended up dying from AIDS in 2013. One of the nicest people I've ever known.

an ex girlfriends aunt and uncle. This was early 00's. One day her aunt is in the emergency room because she shot up some bad shit. They amputated her arm to try and save her but she died that night. It was a rush to find her husband because he went out in the streets once she had her arm amputated. The next morning they get a call and he was in the hospital same symptoms as her. They amputated his leg but that didn't work. He passed that night.

November 8th, 2005 The greatest night in the history of GD!

Like in the mid 90s it got popular and today, as others have mentioned, you've got people taking a path to it from prescription opiates that's causing an increase in use.

I am not really a fan of opiates but I guess I get the appeal. And yeah I know a lot of people who did them. In junior high/high school one of my best friend's older brother and all his buddies were doing meth and then shooting up to come down. I knew a lot of opiate users in college and some of them made the jump, at least for a short time. And of course I know people who tried it out of curiosity.

I think people are underestimating how common it is, because it's not like weed or coke where someone would just casually offer it to you. More of a clickish, low-key thing.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

also heard about a HS girl who OD on it. Instead of taking her to the hospital they took her to a friends house and the mom refused to let them take the girl in the house.

....so they left her in the yard and went back to partying.

She died in the yard.
