poor is when you don't have it, never had it, and prolly can't get it no time soon.

broke is when you had it, spent it on dumb shit or the wrong shit, and now you're waiting to reup on that next pay check.

Broke can mean you just barely have enough to do anything except the bare-bare minimum...if that.

it's contextual.

you wouldn't read a news report about 'broke people'

i think his point is that people scream 'broke', but in actuality they could've adjusted their lifestyle, decisions and things to adapt to what they actually have.

screaming 'broke' is a response to not being able to do what you want - cause you're convinced you can afford to do it, so you'll just do it next week.

being poor is knowing you can't afford to do things, and never even planning for them.

You definitely wouldn't read about broke people, BUT...many broke folks have potential to become poor if they lose their job, or if their cost of living spikes too much.

I'd lay it out like:

Poor: Income is $2,000 per month, total regular expenses after food, gas, etc are more than $2,000. Meaning, you literally have to borrow money, or depend on government or family assistance

Broke, but no bad spending: Income is $2,000, but total bills are about $1,850 per month. So you can't save, can't go out, and may be in trouble if your car breaks, or rent increases

The broke he explains is more like....monthly income is $5,000, bills may be $4,000, but then you spend $150 a month on new shoes...$200 at the club/bars....$200 on strip clubs, and sometimes you spend more...so you end up ending the month with even less than you started with.

blue is broke

I use broke as my current situation with cash on hand. So I have a house, car, money in Savings, etc. but if i don't have cash on hand or in checking not accounted for something, i'd say i'm broke.

Paying bills, trying to tuck a MINIMAL amount aside despite having debts, and eating, but pretty much ending up with a deficit or like $20 shy of a deficit every 30 days....

somebody has the ear of the preeident right now.

somebody has the ear of your congressman right now.

that person probably has way more money than you.

for that reason, policy makers
will listen to their opinion befire yours.

which is unfortunate,
because they are most
likely discussing shit
that will fuck you over.

in other words, practically
everyone I know, or could hope to know, is broke.

we have to
change the way we look at wealth and money.

because a lot of folks think they ain't broke
because they continue to get by.

if you have enough money
to change how policies
and decisions get made,
you are not broke.

if you don't have that,
you're in the same boat as me.
whether you know that or not.
