"Chris Rock : Cops Pull Him Over For The 3rd Time In Less Than 7 Weeks"

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/04/01/chris-rock-cops-pulled-over_n_6984720.html

Chris Rock took a selfie after being pulled over by police while driving Tuesday, marking the third time in seven weeks he's posted while being stopped by a cop.

Rock posted the photo to his social media accounts early Tuesday, writing: "Stopped by the cops again wish me luck." In the shot, the comedian can be seen behind the wheel of a car with blue police lights shining through his rear window.

This is apparently the third time Rock has been pulled over in less than two months. He was pulled over Feb. 13 and on Feb. 27, sharing selfies both times.

Former "Grey's Anatomy" star Isaiah Washington tweeted a sobering response to Rock's posts.

Last year, Rock joked about cop stops while filming "Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee" with Jerry Seinfeld. The two were pulled over by a Ramsey, New Jersey, police officer while on their way to Rock's neighborhood of Alpine. Seinfeld was driving an orange 1969 Lamborghini Miura P400S at the time.

"It'd be such a better episode if he pulled me to the side and beats the s**t out of me, don't you think?" Rock joked. "Now here's the crazy thing: If you weren't here, I'd be scared. I'm famous, still black. Right now, I'm looking for my license right now."

After the stop, he added, laughing: "I was worried the whole time. I'm still worried."

The 50-year-old has tackled the issue of police relations in bits like "How To Not Get Your Ass Kicked By The Police" and in his stand-up.

"You keep notes. You look for the recurring," he told Vulture in December about how he crafts his stand-up routines. "What’s not going away? Boy, this police-brutality thing -- it seems to be lingering. What’s going to happen here? You don’t even have the joke, you just say, 'Okay, what’s the new angle that makes me not sound like a preacher?' Forget being a comedian, just act like a reporter. What’s the question that hasn’t been asked? How come white kids don’t get shot? Have you ever watched television and seen some white kid get shot by accident?"

A rep for Rock was not immediately available for comment.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Shit cops, shit country, or both.

With Seinfield you'd think they'd run the plates or something.

I guess that requires intelligence and deductive reasoning on the behalf of the cops though.

In the instance of the Seinfeld stop, Seinfeld deserved to get pulled over because he was legitimately speeding. From what I remember from the episode, the cop wasn't a jerk and Seinfeld wasn't too stressed about the situation. I wonder how that show works in terms of the cars and if Jerry owns them. I'm certain there were some cars the rented out; there was one with Patton Oswalt where he drove a DeLourian (sp?) that I sure he rented, so I'm not sure if scanned the plates would have made a difference.

his fam owned a limo service.

One of the worst riding experiences I ever had. It looks dope but it rides like shit and has nothing on the inside. No radio, digital screens or Flux Capacitor.

But this is a great idea in terms of self-preservation; but that's of course assuming the person recording themselves isn't guilty of anything getting stopped or pulled over.

I meant video recording, not picture. The video recording is a double edged sword too since you have to be on your best behavior as well.

Some departments are trained to do it, the Self-Defense and DT organization I'm affiliated with teaches cops to approach from the passenger side, they also emphasize de-escalation techniques, so obviously they aren't working with the majority of law enforcement!

because I think it's a valid one. Holding the police accountable is a great ideal, but not the most practical option at this moment. It's a hail Mary pass and I think the numbers support that statement.

I guess I'm saying this is an area where adopting multiple strategies can be effective.

I think he is right in that analogy as well. Black people are at war and have been for a while and in war there is often little time to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Nations move their capitals don't they? And still win wars when such actions are necessary. Back to the hood maybe-- or somewhere else.

Like I said there can be more than one approach, but no one is beating white supremacy. That leaves staying alive and thriving as best we can until it either collapses or is removed by another more powerful Nation. My hope for non white people of African ancestry is that we be ready for that time.

There's about 14 mil that can expect to go to prison. I'm sure there's some overlap between the poverty and incarceration rates, but that leaves just over half of us not affected by those numbers and the incarceration rate is climbing. SO for a decent number of folks survival is the day in and out.

Meanwhile we have a shrinking middle class and a dominant culture that the numbers seem to suggest are inherently racially biased. Bias that then finds it's way into all the systems we have to rely on unfortunately. So race relations being "better" is easily debatable. And as far as relations within our own ethnic group are concerned I'd say they are worse.

Which is something we should all be doing. Making money and building wealth so that we actually can have some power.

Dude's tired of being pulled over for no reason. You think an organization that rewards people who kill black men and sing songs about it will eventually stop harassing black people? They choked a man to death on TV and no one paid any penalty.

They shot a man to pieces for having a wallet.

The laws of the land do not apply to them, to you, or to me.

Any black person that challenges authority is an activist. Even if it's during a traffic stop.

Should they have adapted? There was certainly sentiment for that. In hind sight I would say yes. Adapt to the conditions. I'd rather be educated about black history in a poor black school than have it whitewashed in a rich white one.

assuming they did not have a calculated plan of action all the while
yes
adapting and doing what they needed to until they planned the right moment(s)

we now know rosa parks was no accident
we now know who claudette colvin but we don't know the names of the countless other women who were fined

chris rock keeps getting pulled over
it is beginning to remind me of the definition of insanity
or just dumb

he strikes me as a caution driver
so yes maybe drive a different car
and yes when it comes time to march and rebel
dammit rebel

meanwhile get your ass to the concert on time

chipped paint or cracked glass? His scented air tree got a tear in it?

All jokes aside that is valid, but like he said he gets pulled over less than he did with the flashy car. So there's that.

I'm applauding the man for even saying white supremacy on air-- Lemon looked like he was about ready to hit the eject button. Folks making a pariah outta dude-- it's not his fault the water is hot stop trying to pull him down as he attempts to get out of the pot.

that it won't stop DWBs from happening. period.
black people should be able to drive whatever the fuck they want
and they do
from hoopties to fly shit we get pulled over by and large for no reason more than any other group of people.
that's a problem for the police to get a handle of
not for black people to stop spending their hard earned money on whatever car they want

But waiting for the police to change will be quite some time if it happens at all and what Washington chose for himself as a countermeasure until that time comes is not innapropriate or really worthy of ridicule is all I'm saying.

its more know your audience?

in this case he knows the area he's in the prius flys under the radar easier

he isn't telling the world to get a prius
he told chris because maybe he knows chris isnt flying under the radar because of the neighborhood he knows chris lives in

yes its pride swallowing

i don't believe he's saying to not fight when the time is right

but to make every day less of a struggle?
its why friend told me not to turn around whilst sitting in the back seat
imma choose that moment in time to be like
i have my rights!
imma turn around if i want to!

dude is like hey...you want to get to where you're going?
maybe
just maybe switch something up
it won't stop em all
but maybe it'll reduce the likelihood

its not respectability politics
he isn't blaming him
at least i don't think he is
but he is saying maybe try switching something up until this gets corrected nationwide

Chris Rock riding in his car(s) taking selfies isn't going to fix police racism as well btw

It's obvious that Washington made the tweet to illustrate his frustration with how he's been handled. It's not like he was able to have a full on dialog with questions and answers.

And until y'all live in that man's skin and shoes there is nothing that you can say.
