when i talked to my mom on Mother's Day that year she was MORTIFIED. she still talks about it. LOL

i still recall the terror i felt as we went through US Customs @ Niagara Falls. we had a stolen road construction barrel in the trunk and no reasonable explanation that could convince anyone that we'd acquired it legally. at that moment i realized i was in a car w/2 white guys i barely knew and i had no money and no one w/juice to call to help me back into the country if my entry was denied. plus i might've ended up in a Canadian jail somewhere. but i also knew i had to keep cool so as to avoid drawing attention to myself and raising reasonable suspicion of illegal activity. once we got through that i felt like THE MAN. lol

my mom was always adamant about both, oddly, like she would check my wallet to make sure i had cash (and that the bills were facing the right way, not OCD, just very fastidious about "respecting money"). in fact she still does it to THIS DAY when she can. and drawers? she and i are the only people i know that have like half a dozen new pairs set aside to grab for a trip, hospital visit, etc. one time i had to rush her to the hospital and she grabbed them on the way out the door.

so i woulda been good. trip sounds fun, short on cash and stanky draws and all.

Mind you I am a freshman in college and had never hung out in NYC. So we traveled into town got a hotel and went to a venue like the wetlands I think.

It was all new to me with people passing around whippets and offering other drugs.

back back back in the day (jr high and high school age) i was a black skater kid in southern california
for the most part we would skate in long beach and LA
but, some of the time we had to go to deep orange county because thats where the good skate parks where in all the skate videos we would obsessively watch

we were once at a demo in orange county (the big van comes out, pros come and bust some tricks and pass out swag) at a skate park, sponsor banners were up, music was blasting

this friend was a level 10000 asshole.

so, while we were there he was cutting down banners (they placed sponsor banners up, and hey, what skate kid WOULDNT want a banner of a brand they loved so much?). he would sneak over, cut one down, quickly fold it up and put it in his backpack and then sit on the backpack

so i noticed and i say "dude, what the fuck are you doing?"
he says "ah man, just take them shits! here, go get that one over there, i know you like (skate brand)"

i'm like "uh.......yeah, i do want that...let me go gaffle that shit"

(for the record i was quite dumb and quite young)


So i do the same exact thing he did, sneak over with the pocket knife and I get to cutting the rope, I get one rope cut when out of nowhere 5 grown ass pro skaters rush over and where like

"BRO! HEY BRO! WHAT. ARE. YOU. DOING? NOT COOL BRO! WHAT THE HELL BRO?! ARE YOU TRYING TO STEAL FROM US BRO?"

When i looked over at my friend he didnt even recognize me, i was on my own.

that Scavenger Hunt i posted about above - one of the items on the list was a banner from one of several utility poles on a certain street in Niagara Falls, Ontario ("Clifton Hills - The Street of Fun at the Falls"). the night we arrived in NFO we saw the banners on the street - all were in place. we couldn't figure out how to climb the poles to get one of the banners. i immediately decided that one of the 2 white dudes should be the one to climb the pole if it was going to be done. after a few attempts we retired for the night. the next morning we saw one of the banners was missing - we knew another team had to be in town and had successfully cut one down. so the stakes were raised now. but the sun was rising and we just gave up.

sure enough back in Chicago we found only one team had returned w/a banner. LOL

Yeah... did that with my white friends. We were drunk as fuck one morning (yeah... morning... as in about 10:30-11am) and one dude was like "yooooooooo... we should all go streaking across campus!!!". The dudes were on some "hell yeah bruh!!!" the chicks with us were hesitant at first but then one was like "fuck it, ok!" and the other two joined in leaving me as the only holdout.

Another bottle of Thunderbird (with a packet of grape koolaid mixed in) later and I was like "fuuuuckityaall less dodisss".

Everyone threw on running shorts and tank tops, one cat grabbed an empty backpack and threw it on. We all went out to a spot near the Rec IM building and took everything off and threw everything into dudes backpack, put on sunglasses, and proceeded to run in a single file line alternating sexes across campus and back.

We went to lunch together and a lot of other students were talking about it. A couple of my female friends saw it but didn't realize it was me and was like "... at least the brutha represented his people right".

My cool ass white friend told me how crazy these parties were but we had no idea they were THAT crazy. He was a real live Robin Hood. He would smash chicks, they would fall asleep, he would raid their parents closets and jewelry boxes and bring shut back to the hood.

Anyway...

I was scared to go alone so I asked my boy to come with me. We always heard about these parties but we were never invited or interest. Lets just say these white kids showed us another side we aint never seen before.
