Not really but dude just said "I don't know if there's ever been a time in history when two of the top guys in the game were that lyrical." He's a fool! Or just misinformed. SMH

is he wrong? there's been more lyrical people in the game at different times but Kendrick and J Cole are selling records...just had huge releases at a time when most people aren't selling records. has that ever happened before? I dunno if it has.

Kane and Rakim were at the TOP of the game and sold records with masterful lyrics. More recently Jay-Z and Nas were at the TOP of the game with lyrics and sold records. It Was Written is lyrically better than any Kendrick album AND it sold. Outkast was on top of the game with LYRICS. Sold a gang of records. SMH

there's usually a bunch Pop friendly artists or folks who make club records who outsell the really dope, respected lyricists. If you pull q4 of last year in the mix, only Drake had a bigger release than those 2. It's not a common occurrence in the game...especially in this era where nobody is selling and people clamoring to figure out how. Two guys that didn't really play the game are winning amidst all that.

However badly worded I get what he's saying and I don't disagree.

Even Nas had to adopt a more commercial sound to sell records for it was written...same for Jay on Hard Knock Life. I can't speak for Kane and Ra...my knowledge of that era is second hand.

Maybe I'm giving Rosenberg too much credit but that's what I took out of it.

The whole squad is gonna roll out together.
I'm tryna figure out what size venue they'd pick in my city.
We don't have a whole lot of mid-sized venues.
First Ave would be ideal I think, but it only fits like 1600 people.
A stadium tour would be lame. And I don't think they're at that level yet.

1600 is too small.. School boy q did those cap rooms His last go round and Ab was doing like 400-600pp a show.. So with kendrick involved you need a 3-5k room..

Which sucks because First Ave is really the best venue here for hip hop.
We've only got one 3,500 venue and its wack + way out in the burbs.

Which is the exact issue he was addressing in the first place.

But I understand tho... you have to do that in order to limit your replies to one line.

Plus you like to act like nothing's complicated. That ain't reality tho.

And the Cole comment...I like dude. I think he's a good dude, but it's just....Ionno...not enough edge to'm, maybe.

They treated him with soft gloves regarding that issue. Whether you agree or not it deserves discussion. People didn't understand the context so GIVE US THE CONTEXT. Good interview overall despite Peter pissing me off and random cats in the background on their phones.

He just said people should understand because of his music and who he is that a few words isn't the sum of who he is and I get that. That said I don't think he directly addressed the criticism other than to say people should know better. Maybe they should but you could also just clarify your statement. I guess he tried by saying he's included in the contradiction. I just would have preferred a more straight forward explanation so basic folks don't have to read between the lines.

I also hate the idea that people who didn't like "i" were "HATERS". Maybe they just didn't dig the song. It happens.

He talked about how still today he loses people and people hate him over the color of rag... You don't have to read between the lines... He said people tried taking his words out of context... He made it clear that he's talking about gang violence within his city... That's what he's grown up seeing... Blacker The Berry refers to it... He broke it down deeper in the interview... Not sure what else you needed to hear?

Wtf kinda explanation is 'even though you killed my homies/run w/ people that killed my homies I shouldn't be angry/hold a grudge b/c we all Black men.' That still makes no sense guys lol.
Like, dude was waaay wrong there & wasn't shit taken out of context lol. Alotta dudes from the hood ride w/ that New Black/Respectability bullshit politic of "if we just respect ourselves & stop killing each other..." It's still wrong & no Kendrick does not get a pass b/c he's a Black man that grew up in the hood. He should just admit it. It's actually ok to not have an A+++ analysis of anti-blackness & how it birthed white supremacy, dude is an artist NOT an activist/scholar.

Since when can't one be an utter piece of shit AND a person that experiences oppression/victimized by structural racism etc.?? Like, we got too many ain't shit people in our own families to know better & Kendrick does too.

All that said, I do appreciate his passion & artistic output, he still wrong af tho lol.

Long story short, respect makes us start looking at each other different. We need to redeem ourselves. Waiting on White people or this country to do anything is a lack of self respect. Period. When a person gets killed and we don't seek justice with everything in us how is that respect? When someone designs an entire system for your depression and you dont revolt, how is that respect? Its not saying we letting White people off the hook, its saying Black people we need to renegotiate our social contract. We should be madder. We should be out of here.

but I'm not here for the respect narrative @ all. Too many other groups don't respect themselves either & yet they leap years ahead of Black people. What we up against ain't about respect (which is something earned not just given on some fiction kinship thing) & won't be won w/ respect.

I'm all for the ending of this world as we know it tho & for me, that means not all skinfolk kinfolk. Like, some skinfolk can't/won't come w/ us when we destroy & rebuild the world anew & that's ok.
If freedom for all Black people requires everyone to respect everyone then we not getting there ever lol.

Some people aren't seeing eye to eye with him on one issue.

Why is that a bad thing? He ain't on some new black shit. He just said one line that didn't go over well.

Why does the nigga gotta be 20 for 20 from the field. Why can't he be 19 for 20 with a few rebounds and some assists?

Now, granted anti-blackness' relationship to white supremacy (as it relates to the murders of Mike Brown & Trayvon Martin) IS complicated but once you speak up, come correct or be corrected...that's all this is for me. Also, stfu is hella free & I wish more of these celeb dudes (I find most of the fuck shit regarding this topic comes from famous men lol) would choose "no comment."

Homie, LITERALLY said if we don't respect ourselves how can we expect them to. Then, he proceeded to judge people that marched & destroyed property to express their rightful rage & grief.<< Wrong af. Wtf does respect have to do w/ these children being murdered?? The onus should be on police not to murder our children not for our children to respect themselves. Destroying businesses in a majority black town is helping how? Explain that to me...

So what do you think of the people that stand in front of those buildings and stop people from destroying property "to express their rightful rage & grief"?

Kendrick's not victim blaming... He never said Eric Garner shouldn't have resisted police... He never said Mike Brown deserved to be shot... He's saying he has an issue with the people who are outraged over these killings, but will go out and kill a black man over the color of their rag... He's being very specific... It's the people he grew up around...

I really don't know how more clear Kendrick can be about this...

This narrative has been grossly exaggerated by the MSM. I'm not sure how many businesses were destroyed or by whom so I won't speculate. I will say that disruption is important & that I'm not mad at the people that said fuck this, no business as usual for anybody when you murder our children in the street w/ zero accountability. Further, the business of Ferguson wasn't in the shops/stores but in the systemic racism of Ferguson PD (& I'm sure not just them) which profiled/criminalized Black residents + turned a profit from it.

>So what do you think of the people that stand in front of

I think they were doing what they thought was right & helpful.

>Kendrick's not victim blaming... He never said Eric Garner
>shouldn't have resisted police... He never said Mike Brown
>deserved to be shot...

When he says, "What happened, should've never happened. Never. But when we don't have respect for ourselves, how do we expect them to respect us? It starts from within. Don't start with just a rally, don't start from looting -- it starts from within." <<Victim-blaming 101 even lol. 'If you would just act the way I wanted you to act, I wouldn't harm/abuse or kill you!' 'If we would just respect ourselves then they would too or @ the very least, we'd have a leg to stand on when we tell them to stop killing our children!' <<Wrong af, unethical, ahistorical, & required for no group other than Blacks.
And we will just ignore that he dismisses the grassroots movement in Ferguson/Blacklivesmatter, not to mention the centuries of resistance regarding state-sanctioned violence against Black people.

He's saying he has an issue with the
>people who are outraged over these killings, but will go out
>and kill a black man over the color of their rag... He's being
>very specific... It's the people he grew up around...

It's hella fucked up & stupid & needs to calm down but intra-racial gang violence is NOT similar to state-sanctioned extrajudicial murders of Black folks just b/c both result in the death of Black people. For one, I'd wager that one group does not get tax dollars/vacations/100s of thousands of dollars from supporters & ZERO criminal accountability for murdering Black children. Like, if Black people in gangs stopped killing other Black people in gangs...the police still gonna kill us.
Not convinced Black people in gangs are killing other Black people b/c they Black (vs proximity) the way cops do.

>I really don't know how more clear Kendrick can be about
>this...

Oh, he is very clear w/ his position. It's just wrong, he fumbled the thought. Like, y'all capes got hella holes in it lol. It's ok that an awesome rapper was very wrong that one time lol.

So we should be critical of police killing black people because they're black, but not as critical of black people killing black people over the color of their rag? Because with the police, it's a race thing, but with this example of black on black crime, it's a gang thing?

But these black people who are gangbanging, killing other black people should be just as critical of the police as everyone else? Even though, they currently participate in destroying the community... Same as many police...

So the black person that gets killed by the cops, his/her life is more important than the life of a black person who gets killed by a gang member? ..and that includes the innocent bystanders that get killed in the process...

I just want to make sure that I'm understanding what you're sayin....
