Of course, some Blacks are still offended by that and claim that it's ignorant to label...but no.

Anyone who works and speaks to folks over the phone can easily see the difference. A lot of Blacks speak completely proper or eloquent, yet they still sound Black. I can hear someone talk before seeing them, and 95% of the time, tell if they're Black or not just from how they sound.

So yeah, some Black folks do sound White. It's nothing negative to me, but just an observation. I hate when they say "just because I don't say 'yo homie what upppp' doesn't mean I sound White" because that means they think you have to sound ignorant to sound Black...and that's just as bad as the people who think anything correct = White.

And I don't want to get into gender roles about White sounding more feminine or whatever....but I feel like it's harder for young Black boys who sound White to get respect, because the more hood dudes can just hear them talk and say "oh he's soft."

It may not, but being respectful towards the cops not matter how you talk can help. It helped me stay alive as well as avoid tickets and I sound, talk, act, behave and think like a Black man.

I did not know that all white folks are conservative? Like any other group, they come in all types. But, generally speaking, white folks act like themselves. But, most of them do not sound, act, talk, etc. like other folks unless they were raised and socialized around a specific demographic.

All I know is that there are some Black people who talk like white people. I don't personally is treat them nor look down upon them. I just figure that they probably grew up and was socialized in an environment that is majority white. It us what it is..

Also learned that the alot of the white folks on my job all of sudden get these thick long island, brooklyn or general ethnic accents when they talk their family on the phone to their family friends the same way I might switch it up talking to my peoples.

First, I agreed with your original post. Now, I believe there is a difference between code switching and those who clearly identifies with the dominant culture as opposed to Black culture. I do not believe that every Black person who "talks" white code switches. Some do and some don't.

I was at a bingo hall a couple weeks ago and sat across the table from a young lady who definitely talked white. It was beyond voice inflection and being that she was in the company of some older white folks, I figured they must have adopted her or she was somehow connected to them by other means.

It isn't a big deal to me, but I just believe there are different levels and situations to it. Cultural disconnections does exist, even if it is minute in comarison to what you are talking about.

She just hasn't learned how to code switch yet. She will.
