"Your worst experience with a black owned business."

Im not one to believe the white man's ice is colder, but my homegirl's birthday brunch today was awful

- it all went downhill when they were out of mac & cheese at 1 PM

- if we're paying for unlimited champagne, we shouldnt have to ask for more at all, let alone multiple times without being tended to

- we definitely shouldnt ever have to ask for more water (we never got it btw)

- we didnt get our change back. our table was 6 people, $172 bill. we didnt even bother tripping over our $8, but there's a thing called principle

suffice to say I wont be returning there again

I don't know what is about the black food spots. At first the service is banging and you're smiling and showing appreciation. And then after a couple of months it's like they're tired of working. So they consistently cut corners. With some places, the quality/service will drop and the prices will increase. They make you feel like THEY'RE doing YOU a favor. It's weird.

I feel that most new restaurants start with an unsustainable level of quality and service to attract new customers.... and then try to subtly cut back to a point that's profitable but hopefully not too noticeable to the customers.

If that place isn't a hit from jump, they're going to have to cut a long way to make money and that's how even well-funded restaurants fail. Restaurants are some of the riskiest business to start.... something like 20% of new rstuarants make it a year.

every group, every company, every town, city & country should always be trying to see how they can improve and do better, whether shit is fucked up or not.

the only reason it is a touchy subject is we are afraid white people will listen in on our self-critique and be like "SEE! Toldja black folks are __________ (insert neg stereotype here)"

first you have to place things in a context

then you have to state that you support BOB

then and only then after satisfying all the caveats can you make a statement about the way a business is doing things

create and sell the products i'd like to buy from black people. all the shit i'd like to see black people buy more of as well. why don't we have black owned book stores instead of black book stores. we could cater to everyone and make sure our shit gets handled properly. why can't i go to a black book store and look at +all+ the scifi classics? i want to buy them all and from YOU my brother. you could be making money off of those too.

black comic stores.

useful electronics invented by blacks on kickstarter. i buy new inventions all the time through there.

i'll tell you i was saying though that i wan'ted to see films and mini movies and comics on african cultural tales and whatnot and i feel like in the past 2 or so years a big boom has happened. THAT makes me smile.

I opened the door and the smell of weed almost knocked me out! There were several other customers in there waiting to be helped and three teenage boys behind the counter looking dazed and confused - and not the least bit embarrassed or interested in helping the the customers. No adults in sight!

Never again!

businesses that did own Music shops, TV shops, repair shops, retail clothes, that thrived back in the day...but feels like they can't compete with the prices of the mainstream spots that get items for way way way cheaper on the wholesale level. I know it's more to it than that, but I have seen that

In response to Reply # 0

Anyone been to Milk River on Atlantic in BK? Thought we would check it out for Father's Day and the service was dismal. Packed restaurant with only two servers. Were waiting forever for a table. When the manager finally speaks to us it's to complain that we were standing too close to the bar with kids. Dude really tried to get into an argument with my wife because he somehow didn't believe we were following the waitress to our table past the bar. Never came closer to punching someone working in a restaurant.

it looks great
the brunch was OK but overpriced
the staff (bartenders, waitstaff) were VERY nice. really attentive and friendly
then there was some other stuff but i won't get into it

i did go there on a very random, slow night. something like a tuesday for a meeting
it was dinner hours and they wouldn't let a dude in b/c of how he was dressed which was ridiculous because it wasn't like there was a party. it was dinner. and he was only there to meet a friend who was planning a birthday party for his lady there

he was also very well dressed. i think he either had some sort of shirt on w/out sleeves or some shorts and they cited that as the reason. i was going there to talk about possibly djing there but after that i knew it'd probably not work b/c if you're turning away homeboy, none of my friends would have gotten in

another friend and I ordered two drinks and some water. 45 min later, no drinks...we wave down the ONE waiter who's running around trying to help a restaurant full of people. He said it was only him and one bartender working that night. I almost went to the manager and asked him if they needed another bartender for the night, get me some extra money.

and I cant' blame the waiter, he was trying so hard...but it sucked because i wanted another drink and an appetizer but i knew i'd have to wait another hour plus for those two items so took the L instead.

likely because of those issues

i think it was open at most about a year

the name of the place was infusions bistro in lindbergh (south buckhead) here in atlanta

the food was AMAZING, in fact im sure the fact that the food was so good is what kept it open even a year, otherwise i expect it woulda closed within 3 months

ppl chose to deal with all the other crap just because the food was that good, they also made their waffles in various different batters such as red velvet, key lime, sweet potato, and some other stuff

but the bad was pretty much everything else, first off no air conditioning, this is georgia! it would be cooler outside than in the establishment

then slow and incompetent service, dont advertise bottomless mimosas when you "have to send someone to make a run" because the champagne ran out at 1 pm. then you only inform of that after being asked whats taking so long several times (this happpened on two different visits). have to ask for water refills. brings the eggs out separately from the other portion of ur meals and says "who all ordered eggs?"

then they would have attitudes that you were annoyed by the slow service, them running out of things and the heat. they would not communicate anything unless pressed to and had a kind of deal with it attitude at a certain point

then the bills would be all wrong, even when as a large party peeping game and most of us had cash we said dont even split the ticket, shit was still wrong

i will miss the food but damn that should be a wake up call

horribly slow service or running out of food.

I went to Peter and Kordell's Sports Bar One in Charlotte a few weeks ago. A few things that made me smh...

The prices were in fucking insane for Charlotte. I understand they are trying to do upscale and keep the hood out but a $5 bud light and $8 Guinness is a crime in Charlotte. My boy who just moved from Charlotte to San Fran was like "Damn, I thought I was going to save money when I left the Bay"

As soon as we sat down the waitress let us know we had 2 hours to eat because they had a 9PM reservation. 2 minutes later the manager came by and said there was a 2 hour limit because they had 9PM reservations.

I ordered a Red Stripe. 15 minutes later.. no Red Stripe. I asked if they were brewing that shit in the back? 25 minutes later I finally get my Red Stripe.

Food was GREAT but you can tell everyone working at that spot has NEVER worked in the restaurant industry before.

also, we were warned by someone in our party that the service wasnt good. he had been there 2 weeks ago, turns out his incident wasnt isolated

some black owned businesses interact with whites (or others) in
comparison to interaction with blacks. almost like they
are a bit coddled and made to feel overtly welcome. i notice
it a lot in the dc area. it's embarrassing the times that i
have witnessed it.

i've seen things like employees jonin on paying customers, selling
customers spoiled/rotten goods knowing that it's spoiled, the
constant sizing up, not having certain popular items in stock,
quality of service, not to say that these are black issues but, just
things that i've noticed.

and then there are certain areas/establishments that i just don't
go to anymore because i've witnessed slight/extreme levels of
overall ratchedness.

In response to Reply # 0

...People from DC might know of it.

Ther was a pet store on U Street and 16th NW I believe.

When we first got there, it was the only game in town (or at least our immediate area). We bought a bag of food for our dog.

Got it home, opened it, and it looked like some shit out of Prometheus: maggots writhing all over and throughout the food.

Immediately take it back, open the bag for the cashier, who stares at us blankly. She says store policy won't let them take back something opened. We bought it an hour earlier. With receipt. We were sold faulty goods. She repeats store policy. Also keeps calling the maggots 'magnets'.

Older guy comes over from stocking shelves, asks what the problem is.

Repeats store policy.

My wife says this is bullshit, wants to speak to the manager.

He says I'm the store owner and I'm not taking it back. You can exchange it for the same item.

"So we can have more fucking maggots?" my wife says

He looks at me and says "You need to teach your wife respect. A lady doesn't talk like that."

My wife dumped the 80 lb bag of food and maggots in the middle of the store, storms out.

Awkward pause.

I run after her.

But yeah.

Been goin' there for YEARS! since when the whole restaurant was the size of the current juice bar. Aside from how slow everything is always done, I was accused of buying a Noni Juice bottle for moms, filling it up with water, and returning it. After YEARS of giving them business as a regular, I was done.

Why are some of us so "one and done" with BOB's?

"I'm never going back" They aint getting no more of my money blah blah

We don't go to management but we share the bad news with all our folks and it turn they don't go either because reason?

BOB cant have a bad day or have to work the kinks out??

Why dont we give us a chance to redeem ourselves?

I promise some of yall hold us to higher standards than businesses owned by other ethnicities even when first open.

I know that middle eastern party/liquor store/owner is straight calling you a abeed or disrespecting a sister but yet you go in every other day to buy your shit.

Beauty supply stores are another thing. Ugh

Now I know some of you will come in here and deny it but its real.

if we didn't care, we wouldn't know they are 'black owned'(outside of ethnic restaurants); its not as if its not advertised on the door. Even with the stories above its less about "They ain't pour my water when my cup was empty" but much deeper.

In the transition to nu-brooklyn there's been a few black owned establishments that people support off GP that would have went the way of the dodo if they didn't have community roots and it's a shame; you kind of need to get called out on shit to improve.

i can't think of a BOB where i've said this but i understand why ppl feel that way. i would too if i'd had an awful experience @ a BOB and i have other convenient options to get whatever the BOB offers.

>Why dont we give us a chance to redeem ourselves?

if i have another option available and that option offers better service and/or is more convenient then i'm making that choice.

>I promise some of yall hold us to higher standards than

i dunno about them but i don't.

i dunno about that but if that's the only liquor store that's convenient then i'm probably going in there and not paying attention to whatever is said.

But I'm only gonna pay for shit and to be treated as such for so long. Money is not to be wasted. I told several ppl how good the food was and they had similar bad experiences. My core group of friends gave the place several shots as well. Then again I tend to support Blk business as much as possible but the reality is so of these faults seem to be culturally related .

I don't know how many times I have done repeated business with black establishments because I want to support and I appreciate their product but customer service is horrible (my braid shop being one place I keep going back because for the most part, they are nice and reasonably priced)

but I do one and done with white places, asian places, lots of places...it's not just a black thing...we are only talking about black businesses in this thread.

Why should we ACCEPT lower quality and keep going back for it? we aren't slaves anymore.

I've been to a good 5-6 brunch spots, and it's ranged from a fill up every 15-20 min....to them leaving the bottle of champagne on our table....to one time that me and Atruhead went to a Japanese spot that ran out of Orange Juice, and they actually gave us nothing BUT straight champagne. I had five full glasses!

After several experiences in which I reported problems to a manager or even worse the owner and their response was
1. Attitude by the owner because I reported poor service/products.
AKA "I opened a business so no one could tell me what to do, including customers trying to give me money for agreed upon services that I failed to give."

2. Owner made it clear they had no issue with running the business poorly at the expense of the customers because they had to get theirs.
AKA "Give me your money bitch, I'm a hustler. You're not valuable."

3. Plea copped like "we're a small black business, support us even though we're fucking up, we can't do it like bigger businesses." Um, you can't fill my glass with tap water after I waited an hour and a half for food and drinks? I see the waitresses over there yucking it up while 50 people get no service.
AKA " lower your expectations because we're lazy and disorganized , while we play on your black loyalty."

but I wonder if any of the attitude that creates the first two comes from some of these spots either being owned by or having money heavily invested by street dudes. Most of the hustlers I knew of that were trying to either clean money, take on a vanity project, or step away put money into service businesses like barbershops, restaurants, car washes etc. Kind of hard to know of, let alone instill a customer service culture when your complaints dept. was pretty much "Fuck You, Pay Me."

Streets won't let me chill.

every time i go in there the store has little to no inventory for sale. and the few items they have seem to have been bought @ Target for resale. and i never see customers in there possibly b/c the store makes meager attempts to advertise its existence.

i am convinced it's a mere money laundering scheme and not an actual business. b/c the storefront sat unoccupied w/'COMING SOON' signs all up in there for about a year. and now it has been 'open for biz' for like 6 months or so.

fuck you.

This is the #1 reason I don't rock with the "support black business" shit.

Because this is what happens.

People don't do this with "white-owned" businesses.

Stop associating negativity with black.

Good business is good business, bad business is bad business.

That's it.

I generally dont have horrible experiences with black owned businesses, this was one.

we went to a sushi place right after and we werent surprised to find that they covered the basics correctly (bringing water, returning our change)

the black place was mostly concerned with creating ambiance, which wont cut it

i've gone (or i went?) to this joint for i dunno how many yrs - maybe 7. and i have rarely spent fewer than 3 hrs in there getting my hair cut. and my cuts are never elaborate - it doesn't take more than 30 minutes to cut my hair. i'm not the type of dude who likes hanging out in the shop - i want to get my hair cut and get out, period. but it's not possible there. my last cut there was right after xmas - i waited 2.5 hrs after my barber said there were 3 ppl in line in front of me (i stopped making appointments b/c he doesn't understand appointments). and after all that time he still wasn't moving it along fast enough. never mind that he'd been pretty drunk and mad for my previous hair cut (he also cut my hair much lower than i'd asked but i didn't complain b/c he was SO drunk + mad at the world). that last cut was the last straw. i have not been back since.

fuck you.

recently i've been having my hair cut at a Jamaican-owned joint. the hair cuts have been just okay - not as good as my former barber though. i am tempted to try him again - but then like last week i walked in at the new spot got right in the chair and was out of there 30 minutes later. at the old spot i know i wouldn't have walked out there until 2 or 3 hrs later. the convenience is great and i'm all about convenience.

In response to Reply # 47

i've personally heard people in long lines in the "black" walmart nearby who will complain of long lines and apologize to the black cashier as they complain saying "i know it's not YOUR fault" etc. it's almost like we don't want to be "the man" or sound like a whiny white person since we have some personal experience of being on that other end and not wanting to offend or complain and make that person's day that much worse when they're just grinding it out like we are in our jobs.

i tend not to complain vocally because i'm more patient about most stuff and see so many customer service atrocities that i'd just waste my life away, but my wife is that person on google, yelp, facebook letting EVERYONE know not to patronize places.

With non Blk businesses. Sorry I havent. There is this amazing bakery in castleberry hill and they are often closed with a note saying sorry for the inconvenience. Ppl fiend for their goods but they are so often closed that people give up. Now the woman is very well respected so she does a lot of private stuff and catering but it's almost pointless for her to have a storefront and not keep that already limited posted hours. She should just change her posted hours or hire someone if she can afford it

For the other black people I've known who've opened businesses (mainly in the service industry) they think about the money first and being "a boss" instead of using the customer experience as a means of building their brand. I can understand watching your bottom line, but devising a list of things you won't do for your customer (no refunds, no exchanges, no charges less than $20, etc.), hiring unqualified staff that works cheap, delaying necessary repairs and updates has residual effects that will kill your operation down the line...there's more to running a business than just barking orders, saying you're a boss and expecting the customer to deal with it.

Streets won't let me chill.

i would just encourage everyone to consider that attention paid to bad business practices in BOB is probably moreso from a place of frustration and disappointment instead of just trying to "Black bash"

its because we actually give a damn that attention is even paid and it doesnt always have to be met with "well white establishments are guilty of the same thing" it aint about that, its about what we want from us

Brooklyn moon. I used to go to there all the time for fried whiting. I took my so on a date there and the owner had installed a 6 x 10 ft projection screen to which he had hook an Xbox too and proceeded to play call of duty on the whole night by himself. So we got to romantically eat while watching him kill several hundred people. Note the place is the size of a shoe box and there is no way to turn away from the screen.. The waitress asked us if we liked the view sarcastically like she knows the shit was mad inappropriate. It was nothing but couples in there, wasn't like it was a game night. This is a restaurant, not your apartment chilling with your boys. Never went back. We not going to get into the health code violations they tried to pass off as redecorating.

Soul food spot on Utica... Terrible service but I was trying to support. Last straw was they served raw fried chicken to a guest I took there from out of town.

And I've been going there forever.

-Took almost 40 minutes to get a glass of wine the other day. When I inquired about my missing wine 20 minutes in, the bartender said, "So and so didn't tell you we're out (of whatever wine I'd asked for)?"

I ordered another wine and waited another twenty minutes to get it.

-Ordered a meal and my fries were stale.

-Was sitting at the bar and still couldn't get my waitress' attention. Had to finally give my card to another waiter and my waitress got mad about it.

Have no idea why their mac and cheese is so damn sweet lol. But that's more a personal preference thing than a customer service issue.

which is bizarre since the offshoot, Peaches Hothouse, is imho the best restaurant in Bedstuy. Shoot, even their other ventures like Smoke Joint have pretty damn solid service it's just they can't get their act together at Peaches and its been there for YEARS.

I think its because (ironically) as opposed to being a straight restaurant like their other nu-BK ventures Peaches tries a bit too hard to fit a certain vibe/scene and fails terribly at service because of it.

i was there when it opened

they had people waiting on pickup and to-go orders for over an hour
and when they tried to comp them, folks absolutely refused

a dude literally said 'i want you guys to stick around!'

so that's the story of peaches in that part of bed stuy. lol. no other resto in the area when it opened up. it replaced an african restaurant that was barely open and then there was that spot on stuyvesant (solomon's porch) that had good food but bad service as well

ive eaten at peaches many times and 70% of the time, service is adequate
other times it's not as good but not grounds for acquittal necessarily (though that meal i ate the first time i went there made me sick)

smoke joint and hothouse aren't like that but they are smaller and managed by other folks. marietta surprisingly had it down pretty quickly considering but i would think after 4 restaurants the 5th one would go off better

they do try at peaches though. i just don't think they have the right management and across the board their menu is growing boring. marietta good as hell but all the other spots (maybe not smoke joint b/c it's more casual) can use a menu reboot. especially hothouse.

meanwhile saraghina killing it food and service wise. i was so happy when they started being open for breakfast with those KILLER pastries. i used to detour over there for coffee and breakfast. i couldn't deal w/ bread stuy at that point. their pastries were always stale-ish (cept for the pumpkin bread. yum), the coffee was meh, the sandwiches looked gross and the wife of the husband and wife team who owned it was RUDE AS HELL. i wasn't the only one who thought that too. i felt bad when they closed but you gotta step it up once competition comes in and they were slacking.

But I'm inching toward that two-star Yelp review, for sure. Maybe I'll try them again in 6 months or something.

On my anniversary we went there, 1 hour no drinks not even water.... after an hour and 45 minutes of no food and we get up to walk out only for our food to appear just as we're putting our coats on. The manager wants to have a whisper conversation with us to stay and comp us. It's not the first time it happened. How does one do this everyday and no know how to run the resturant?

In response to Reply # 101

Aside from the service, there's something I don't like about the vibe at Peaches. I can't put my finger on it, but it's somehow inauthentic and cold.

Meanwhile, Marietta gives me so much life, and much better food and service.

And like Reg, I'm also Team Hothouse.

Sheeit, I even like BedStuy Fish Fry (I've tried the two in downtown Brooklyn and Clinton Hill). They don't smile ever, but I appreciate that the food is always bomb.

I had the most pathetic catfish sandwich I've ever had a Peaches 5 years ago and never returned.

it was on a regular wonder bread bun, it was thin as fuck as if someone took a regular catfish filet and put it in a deli slicer to get as many "servings" as they could, it was thinner than a piece of whiting. no dressing, 2 dry pickle slices. and about 5 waffle fries. that's it.

and it was like 12 bucks

Like when I read a yelp and I see white people low ball a West Indian spot because of unfriendly wait-staff I know to discount that negative rating because they just aren't use to West Indian folks who aren't the type to being all smiles for no damn reason.

I've also found that as a black person, I get better service then white folks in some black establishments. I was surprised to see people say otherwise in this post.

An amazing job but after the first time I used them she texted me after I gave her amazing feedback to post something on a review site becuz she was getting half great reviews and half dogged reviews. After I left my great comment I read some of the others and i could see a lot of the negative feedback was coded language like "ghetto" and "lazy". Becuz they did/do so great at my place I assumed it was becuz the company was mostly Blk. I guess they weren't smiling ear to ear the whole time and having Blk names it didn't fit certain "White" standards.

In response to Reply # 0

yeeeeeaaaars ago, I was at some chick's crib and she was eatin on some bangin ass fried perch plate with a mountain of perch, mac and cheese, greens, and a little peach cobbler off to the side. I asked where she got it from and she told me it was a new black owned joint around the way from her crib. About a week or two later, me and my boy swing by there and holler at a couple of catfish sandwiches. The picture they had on display had a fried catfish filet, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and tartar sauce between a 6"-ish sub roll.

"Aye... Is that what the fish sandwich is like???"
"Yes sir, would you like one"?
"Lemme get two of 'em with some fries"
"that'll take about (insert something like 10-15 minutes), is that ok?"
"yeah, bet"

So we sit thereat a table for a while, kickin it and shit and the chick comes up with our food in styrofoam boxes and bags it up. We pay and bounce to the car, ready to eat some good ass sandwiches and fries on the way to Tha D when we cracked them boxes...

... This broad put some scrawny ass catfish steaks, not even filets, with bones, between two pieces of white toast and some sad ass struggle fries that looked like they were re-cooked in the boxes with a smile on her face and joy in her heart.

We went back in there livid, mad as shit. We in there hollerin and yellin about the shitty ass sandwiches that ain't what was pictured even though she swore that's what we were gettin and how we were jipped. She was on some "I'm sorry but that's how we make them now unless you pay for the extra stuff".

After a few minutes, the manager/owner came out and that nigga ain't make shit no better talmbout we shoulda asked what we were getting and all that shit. We both demanded our money back and dude was real hesitant, but my boy was one of them types you kinda know not to push too much or shit's finna get wild... and he was right at that edge, pacing back and forth talkin about "yo shit finna get burnt down mah nigga... over some fuckin wonder bread mah nigga...".

The owner just gave us our money back and we hit the BK down the road. That place closed up a couple of months later.

We flat out asked if the sandwiches were just like in the picture and she told us "yes". It woulda been a whole different scene if she would have said "Well, you can get it like that but it costs extra" and we would have been fine with that, but to blatantly lie???

I did tell ole girl that put me on to that place about what had happened. She told me she went back for that same perch dinner and got one raggedy piece of fish, and mac and cheese that tasted like it was smooth out of a GFS can, and some greens that were pretty horrible. She said she wanted to fight somebody.

It was as if when they first opened they got everybody hooked with large portions and freshly cooked food then switched it up after people started spreading the word.

In response to Reply # 0

You have bad business owned by black people, you have good businesses owned by black people.

Same as any other nationality, especially when you're dealing with independent businesses.

I've been to establishments where I had to wait almost an hour for my food and never have I said "see, this is what happens when you deal with a white-owned business"

Has anyone else?

Only when it's black.

Self hate is what it is.

Do you ever attribute "good" to the business being black-owned when you have a great experience?

Probably not.

I always roll my eyes when people say "support black business" because I don't want "support" because I'm black, I want business because I'm good.

When people patronize a business with the intention of "supporting black business", they tend to treat it as if they're doing YOU a favor.

Shit irritates me to no end.

My clients come to me because they believe I'm good at what I do. Being black is just a bonus. For those who don't, I sincerely hope they choose someone else.

My decision to patronize a business is always based on where the quality is and I NEVER associate the quality with the color.

Not trying to rant, but this topic makes my blood boil.

meanwhile 'black owned business' i hear much more often. it's an actual thing - some businesses even advertise the fact that the biz is black-owned. that could be why ppl talk about BOB's as a thing but don't do the same w/WOB's.

note: i do hear ppl talk about Arab-owned businesses (aka owned by Ay-rabs) and Asian-owned businesses. i don't hear 'Latino-owned' or 'Hispanic-owned' - not that these things don't exist or that ppl don't talk about them as such *i* just don't hear them. probably b/c i'm not privy to the conversations wherein issues relating to those businesses are discussed. likely b/c i'm not Latino or Hispanic. but i am Black and so i hear ppl around me talking about BOB's more often. it makes sense to me.

fuck you.

As bad as the generalities made about Blk businesses. Ur admittedly in ur feelings about this and have direct personal stake so I understand tho.

Just again, as I said above, consider that as Black ppl, many us feel we have "stake" in other Black ppl, a latent sense of family, oneness, etc. that's cultural. It's the same as caring more about ur blood family or close friends fucking up than you care about a stranger making the same fuck up.

That's why Blk customers may be more critical of Blk businesses, becuz we feel we have more "skin" in the game, no pun intended.

But ur right about a lot of what u said and I'll be aware of that the next time I mutter Blk business after getting shitty service and how I wouldnt say that at a white resto. Thats just being honest and I definitely appreciate ur reply

152. "Question: What is all this bad service and poor management due to?"
In response to Reply # 0

Lack of access to business school or no effort put toward business education?
Less start up money...leading to more stress and more penny pinching, which leads to less inventory and staff?
Feeling entitled to money just for the effort it took to start the business in the first place?
Like,do these owners not shop anywhere, so they don't see how customers should be treated?

My mom was a business owner and had great customer service skills and never went to business school but she's just repeated what other businesses did that she thought was reasonable and fair.

In response to Reply # 152

it's almost as if they expect us to give them a pass for shitty service/products just because they're "black owned". Like that somehow means we're -supposed- to support them no matter what.

I made it clear over the phone that I only wanted a wash and set. So there were no surprises, I told them I had natural hair. The receptionist swore they did all kind of hair.

The assistant sent me to the chair instead of the bowl, that was weird. She tries to talk me into getting a relaxer. I'm like absolutely not, I made what I wanted clear to avoid any confusion. So the stylist came up with all of these stories of why natural hair wasn't a good choice. I'm like I came to the wrong place, I'll leave. She's like it's okay, I'll do the wash and set...I'm just making sure that's what you wanted. So the assistant washed and conditioned my hair and I sat there. Waited and waited and waited. She started on 2 other heads, laughed, talked, ATE and didn't even check on me. The assistant did a poor job whispering behind me saying that they were going to make my nappy head wait. Oh word? I took the smock off, got my coat and put my hat on. Yes, I walked out of a salon in the winter with damp hair. If I knew about Yelp back then.....

memba when my hair was platinum?
my licensed cosmetologist father cut it off because he didn't think blonde hair over a certain length "looked right".

granted it's at the mall
but still
they need an operations manager to the fullest.

they accept walk-ins on wednesdays
{$10 haircuts}
the following has happened:

•come in only to find your barber was let go the day before

•place your name & # on the sign in sheet when there's a wait only to not be called

•watching others arriving after you getting faded up by YOUR barber

•no one greets you as you walk in

•worst website EVAR

•owner/mgr has 0 ppl skills

the barber i'm hooked up with is SWEET.
i just switched over to him about a month ago
the former one hasn't even been around to notice
but he never not once gave me his card nor made a formal introduction. d'ah well.
