People mean, that while on strong psychedelics that they temporarily lose the feeling of individuality. They become 'one' with the universe.

I've yet to experience it (I've yet to really delve deep into phsychedellics too - but it's something I look forward to.

On LSD as well as shrooms. You never truly lose yourself or *become one* with the universe. If anything, you realize that you are the universe and the universe is you (check out my sig), in the same sense that your skin is the skin of the universe. It is the thing that envelops the universe from the inside out, and outside in, at the same time. The sense of individuality is still very prominent though. The only thing that you truly lose is your filters of perception that you use to judge your surroundings with.

That's why I hesitate to call it "ego death". You are still very much aware of yourself, who you are, your individual self, etc. The only thing that changes is your relationship to everything else.

time froze and I drifted outside of myself, and further back and further back as I'd realized I'd died, and eventually the scene in my sightline began to repeat itself, until I was so far away from where I'd died that the scene was laying on top of itself over and over the way pages in an open book rest.

I kept floating further and further away without being able to see anything other than the scene of my death over and over and over until suddenly everything went white, and I woke up, and I couldn't speak (the muscles in my jaw were incredibly tight, and two of the girls with me were worried I'd been turned mentally handicapped) or recognize anyone (I did this with about 13 catholic school girls while one of their parents were out of town and I only knew three or four of them beforehand) and so I was convinced I had fallen through a wormhole into another planet.

Then I remembered my family, and I went to lay down on a very comfortable carpet, and I was rubbing the carpet when I remembered I was on drugs, and it was only supposed to last about 15 minutes, so I took my phone out and just stared at it until I felt better.

There's a lot more to what happened there but that was the 'death' portion of it. I was still aware of myself as something that could exist, but I was very worried that my past life was over and Earth was a distant memory for several minutes.

I hate it. If you want to slip into a confused state of delirium with alarming states of panic, be my guest. I have never heard of anyone having a beneficial or good experience with it. It usually scares the shit out of people and that's about it.

and when all the pieces got put together of what I was experiencing up to that moment vs. what was actually happening up to that moment, I was astounded and have never forgotten a single second of it.

The second time I did it I was with a couple dudes and we were in a time crunch to squeeze it in before one of their older brothers came home (primarily because he would be a troll, not because he hated drugs) and a couch arm turned into a carnivorous Brontosaurus which was pretty terrifying.

But that first experience, when I 'died', I honestly have nothing but great things to say about other than things could have gone terribly wrong if there hadn't been so many other people around to reign me in.

And I probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone, either. Definitely a good thing it's not just sitting around in head shop displays anymore.
