Racists Broke into Black Student’s Apartment and Scrawled Racial Slurs on the Walls

A black student at Texas A&M Corpus Christi told police that racists broke into their apartment and wrote racial slurs on the walls.

Corpus Christi Police Chief Floyd Simpson spoke to the press about the vandalism on Monday. Simpson took the unorthodox route of publicizing the incident due to an increase in racial incidents on college campuses.

Chief Simpson hopes the added publicity will also help catch those responsible for the break-in.

According to local affiliate KRIS-TV, vandals scribbled on the walls a person being hanged with a noose and a caption that reads, “White Power. We’re coming for you” and “Let’s hang a n****r.”

Another message read, “Die n****r. Where is your protector? White Power.”

Some of the messages also include bad grammar, not the sort you’d expect from a college student.

The victim, who lives at Islander Village apartment complex, was away for spring break so police are unsure when the vandalism took place. The complex is gated and has cameras.

“I think the community ought to be hurt by this. I think that we all ought to take it very seriously,” Simpson noted.

Police are encouraging people who may’ve witnessed something to come forward.

“Quite frankly, we think we have a bead on some people who may be involved in this,” the police chief said. “The best thing they can do is come forward, and have a discussion about this, and let us bring this to a logical conclusion.”

University police aren’t investigating since the incident didn’t take place on campus.
