word. The onlooking commentary really showed a lot too. They 1. want police for some shit that can be easily squashed unless someone wants to "go there" 2. I'm sure they would be like "where's security/the cops?" if they saw Trayvon out and walking in his neighborhood.

This dependency on police and how quick they look to run to it for protection is like the direct opposite of how most Black people deal with police.

Child development states that tantrums are actually healthy up until around age four. The child's brain isn't fully developed and they're exper things that they may not have the proper knowledge to maturely express.

Ironically a slimiar thing happens during puberty.

www.parenting.com/article/toddler-temper-tantrums

I don't know everything (closer to nill), and I don't have kids. But I am marrying a child psychologist so we talk and bounce back ideas against her training. All while monitoring the styles of friends with kids and having talks about them.

Children can be annoying as fuck. But that's part of the basket. I tend to excuse myself if I'm around annoying kids. Because those moments for kids are opportunities to develop that I can't take away because they're on my nerves.

The response of the parent is crucial and not allowing that growth and bond because of "public decorum" and in this case a public that's clearly against her; I can't ride with that.

Don't go to McDonald's that has happy meals and play areas and pretend that you're the target demographic.

I can go weeks without seeing children without even trying. Probably months if I was actively trying to avoid them.

this was a classic power struggle between mom and kid.

When youre in a public place and its been going on, there are other ways you can still keep control and not ruin everyone else's dining or whatever theyre doing.

I think she had just gotten to a point where it was public and she had set her "im ignoring your tantrum" ultimatum publicly, so in that moment she couldnt bend because she wouldve felt weak in front of all the other patrons.

Been there myself. Ever had a crying ass kid on a packed train during rush hour?

I agree with you.

I think theres a time and place for holding your ground as a parent.
In this case I maybe woulda tried for 5 minutes max then we woulda been out.

Liek I said, from watching the video I think she just made her demands and orders public and she was embarrassed she would lose face in front of all those people if she backed down.

Man come on. A small child is not a puppy or parrot. You can't just train them to behave how you want and keep them in the house until they do.

This isn't Pokemon. There's pages upon pages of behavioral science, anecdotal evidence, personal experience, and long term studies on children that counter most of this "keep your annoying children to yourself" message that's floating in this post.

And I say all this while ABHORING annoying kids, snot noses, bad parents and tantrums. So what I do, is stay the fuck away from them. Because as a free adult, I have the ability and general means not to occupy the same space as a toddler, teenagers, college kids, bros, bad bitches, bimbos, and anyone else that I don't like.

this, of course, was when it was acceptable, if not expected, to whoop a kid's ass for acting up in public.

Yes, you can train a child to act a certain way in public settings. The problem is that the bar for what has been deemed acceptable public behavior has been almost completely obliterated leaving us with legions of parents allowing their kids to act an ass without repercussions and the rest of us have to deal with the end result of that bullshit.

I'm 31 years old and still can't cry at appropriate times. Hell I barely emote when I should. All of those switches and belts helped the behavior but not the development.

And for those of us that got popped and still came out fucked up, then what? I got cousins that were taught to behave in public and still came out shitty. So I don't buy it.

My hope is to raise my kids with those same ideals, but different tactics.

if YOU'RE fucked up, then that's on you; go holler at a shrink or something.

Thing is, people NOT whoopin ass or training a kid how to act in public are churning out fucked up ass kids in droves. They're turning into whiny ass fucked up adults so it appears your solution ain't working either.

Don't even take that personal. You gotta be a bit fucked up and dysfunctional to come here and find entertainment through relation on a day to day, year to year basis.

On top of that I'm not even advocating granola parenting. What I'm saying is to take it situation by situation and assess as is. And that there are times when tantrums are healthy.

Your opinion, my opinion, or whoevers doesn't dispute the science. And there's ways to bring ideals of the past to situations of the present.

We used to do non stop push-ups before we learned about calisthenics. We used to treat illnesses with cocaine. We practiced Freudian junk science before it was throughly debunked. There's tons of things we used to do, that we learned to improve upon and parenting isn't an exclusion.

letting a kid throw a tantrum in public when its obviously disturbing other people isnt healthy IMO.

pick the kid up, take them outside or to another area and deal with or let them cry it out.

rather than sitting down and feigning concern for the child...why not just be all the way bold and just say "can you and that crying ass baby go somewhere else?!"

i'd be less mad at that tbh bc yea...nobody wants to hear that shit...

i dunno...bc i don't care how shitty the restaurant...nobody wants to have to tolerate other people's babies/kids

lose-lose for all involved

The do-gooder lady is out of line. If you think a child is being neglected/abused in public you should call the police. Not serious enough to call the police? Then mind your own business. That serves as a good litmus test. Something would have to be REALLY wrong with the parent to warrant interference via a call to police....and that's the way it should be.

Obviously, she's condescending, patronizing, offensive, judgemental and all that.

On the other hand.....spitting and punching someone in front of your baby puts the child in danger. The only time something like that is warranted if is the child were at risk. And in this case, the child wasn't. The fact that the mother was quick to throw down makes me doubt that she was utilizing the 'let the child cry it out' technique. She's just a shitty parent and most likely is negligent. Though not necessarily in an unlawful way. Just a shitty parent.

Mom should be charged with assault though. Can't do anything to the do-gooder but she should get off her high-horse.

Of annoying whiteness. The guys shooting the video were racist as fuck. That looked like a mall cafeteria. Hardly fine dining. I don't agree with ignoring tantrums, especially in public but that's not a crime and its a major violation for that woman to insert herself in that personal situation. And the lady was definitely trying to egg her on a certain point. She had plenty of opportunity to leave after the baby had stopped crying.

If that Latina woman had sat down at that White woman's table with her child she woulda been indignant. The Latina should not have hit her but I get it.
