Yo girl does happy hours nightly because I don't really cook all that well.

And I don't eat breakfast.

So basically I have one big meal at lunch which is always either Mac and cheese, Shake Shack (burger and fries), naked burritos from Chipotle or Qdoba, or chicken pad Thai.

I want to eat way more healthy and start eating breakfast but don't wanna be cooking all early.

What meals would you suggest? Maybe cereal in the morning?

Basically what healthy things do yall eat for breakfast lunch and dinner?

You can eat fruit and nuts and things like that for snacks, but in order to really nourish yourself you're going to have to learn to cook better. Really healthy prepared food tends to cost more. Get a few cookbooks and start going to town.

you should also eat more healthy snacks during the day.

dry fruit, grapes and shit.

if you can tolerate the shoppers, go to whole foods and fill a few bags in the multi grain isle.

I cook sausage on Sunday ans leave it in the fridge at work. That's my protein. I put two light yoplaits in a book, some strawberries and I'm good for the morning.
I have loose granola for the yogurt and some cashews in my desk.

For lunch I occasionalky cook in the morning. Season some salmon, hop in the shower, boom lunch.

You gotta start with the easy stuff. Salmon is easy, strip steak is easy, baked chicken is easy. Season to taste, leave in for 20-25 minutes, get it and go.

For easy veggies you can do spinach or edamame.

None of that is gonna work until you accept that you have to change your LIFESTYLE in addition. Being healthy and eating healthy is more than just a schedule or skill thing. You have to really evaluate your entire day to day lifestyle and modify it to allow for healthy habits to develop.

Usually i'll keep them in sync by uploading my gpx logs to the sites though.

it can be yogurt and fruit
you can basically boil water before you shower, put some eggs in it and have hard boiled eggs w/ toast

you can make a turkey sammich. or a peanut butter sammich.

you just want something for breakfast that is fueling but in a good way. not overly sweet or fattening. protein heavy.

you can get a crockpot which can help you as well. theyre like 30 bucks (on sale!) and you can make a lot of different meals in it that don't require anything more than the time it takes to chop and cut things

but overall, learn to cook. you have to figure out how to make healthy versions of the things you like at home too so you can save $

if you keep it bare bones basic
bake fish or chicken in the oven
steam vegetables in a rice cooker
you can eat that 5 days a week and spend maybe a hour total on preparation
the only seasoning you need is lawrys for the fish/chicken
done

baked apples or sweet potatoes filled with oatmeal.

cut up some veggies at night
this will develop prepping and knife skills
right now I wouldn't worry about perfection, just get it done
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3eoFL31VVE
Chowhound has an awesome Youtube channel with plenty of tutorials.

get up next morning
put your frying pan on the stove over medium heat with some oil, let's say 1/2 a tablespoon
let that heat up
while that's going on crack, scramble and season your eggs
saute your veggies until soft and golden
(note if sauteeing greens such as spinach add at most a 1/4 cup of water or the greens will burn)
add in your eggs
cook to your preferred degree of doneness
and voila!
scrambled eggs with veggies

Add some whole wheat or multigrain toast and you have a simple, healthy breakfast.

here for dis.

Breakfast:

Probiotic Yogurt, a banana, and granola. That will cover most of your morning needs. If you want, have a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in the morning with warm water before you eat. It will improve digestion and circulation, you will feel great.

Lunch:

I usually have a turkey wrap with a ton of veggies on it. Just a bit of salt and pepper, no dressing.

Dinner:

I bake everything. It's easy and doesn't require any "cooking". Cut up some sweet potatoes with the skin on, baked them with coconut oil. Delicious and very nutritious.

Baked some chicken breast with simple seasoning, also with coconut oil.

Make a quick salad. I usually have field greens with goat cheese, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, and a bit of my favorite dressing.

Snack on fruit throughout the day, drink lots of herbal tea and water. Try to stay away from heavy drinks that are basically a cake in a cup.

and i can add some almond milk, spices, and sweetener to the leftover rice and put it back in the cooker and make rice pudding

i just did it as an experiment but it totally works. you might have to tinker with the liquid depending on the rice and there is a risk of it browning to the bottom (but not totally burning). otherwise its really good and fast. i like my rice pudding warm so it's perfect. ive got some leftover rice in my fridge im trying to convert into pudding tonight

after you finish eating them.

eating well is not difficult. you know how to do it already.

eat fruits and veggies - 2 pieces of fruit w/breakfast. 1 serving of veggies at lunch (salad counts). 1 or 2 servings of veggies/fruit at dinner (i'm a fan of steamed veggies). be a grown up and eat fruit and veggies w/o butter or cheese or sauces (b/c they're not veggies if you do that). eat your veggies steamed or lightly boiled but not fried. this is common sense. just do it.

if you wanna keep eating crap go ahead and do it but add a large side of some steamed veggies or some fruit or a huge salad w/o cheese and creamy dressing. go on and have a cheeseburger...but have steamed veggies instead of fries. eat a McGriddle...have an apple and a banana w/it instead of hash browns.

it's not hard.

fuck you.

a lot of time i buy something like popeyes or prepare something frozen like dumplings and then i blanche broccoli and eat it with the bad stuff

so it's quick and at least i got a serving of veggies in

i also just do this regularly anyway. broccoli is my go to veggie. i like it and it's quick to make. even at work. i just bring some precut in a bowl and add hot water to it (the kind that's in an office for tea and stuff) and let it sit covered for a few minutes and strain. it can smell once you open it but once you strain out the water its ok

i'll also buy half a rotisserie (or a whole one) and eat that w/ the blanched broccoli for lunch/dinner for a few days

if not mixed veggies (they come frozen in a bag - corn, green peas, carrots, green beans) then broccoli florets or broccoli/cauliflower mix.

i steam it on the stove or in a microwave - they sell frozen broccoli in bags that can be used in the microwave for steaming.

Microwaves it steamer bags (fairly cheap and extremely convenient). After steaming it, she tosses it was some balsamic vinegar and garlic. Fricking delicious.

The other nights during the week, we have green salad, kale, or carrots. Just started doing chard as well.

39. "Ditto on smoothies, and think about salads for dinner"
In response to Reply # 0

I personally don't love eating salads for lunch b/c I always seem to wind up with oil n vinegar on my work shirt. Ah well.

But yeah, both those options are (well - can be) very very healthy and relatively quick and require no cooking skill at all.

For smoothies, keep some fresh fruit on the counter, some frozen fruit in the freezer and some yogurt in the fridge. I typically like to use a fresh banana, some OJ, and some combo of frozen cranberries, pineapple, mango, papaya. If I have them, fresh apples, citus, or strawberries are good too. Or dried apricots. If you're looking to get away from making it a sugar rush, you can always use a little kale or other green leafy veggies, or some carrots. Whole thing shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to prepare.

Salads should be pretty easy as well. I don't tend to like the pre-mixed packages but there's no reason you can't use them to save time, as long as you move through them fairly quickly (tey tend to go bad faster than other stuff). If you're making your own, try an easy one like
-one romaine head, chopped
-one tomato, chopped
-one small cucumber, chopped
-a handful of spinach, Tuscan kale, arugula, etc.
-some Craisins
-some croutons, sunflower seeds, granola, whatever

get some decent olive oil and a good balsamic and you can't ask for better.

All making me look forward to gardening. Got the first round of spinach, kale, mache, bok choy, arugula, peas, carrots and beets in the ground last weekend... just a few weeks until the early greens or asparagus comes in.

they make for creamier smoothies, I've come close to recreating milkshake viscosity using frozen over fresh bananas.
or what I do in the summer is make banana "ice cream" by throwing frozen bananas in the blender and add that to my smoothies and milkshakes.

here for dis.

I find it either takes longer for it to get blendable (ie, I have to pull the stuff out of the freezer and let it sit in the blender for a while before blending), or I have to add more liquids (OJ, which is a lot of sugar, or water, which isn't as tasty.)

plus - some people get turned off by the way the skins turn black when you freeze them (if you leave the skins on).

Also I forgot to mention the yogurt... a spoonful is great.

learn to cook and you have access to fresh fruit and veggies.
There is a great organic market right near work where I pick up my breakfast from (granola, fruit, yogurt, etc etc). They also have great fresh salads. Not the cheapest but better than the bacon egg and cheese I was eating almost daily.

The starchy fruit (banana) or vegetable (baked sweet potato) is optional, but I usually have some eggs and some steamed broccoli or green beans. It's great to get that first serving of vegetables out of the way in the morning.

I honestly don't see the problem lol

61. "get a slow cooker"
In response to Reply # 0
Tue Mar-24-15 07:24 PM by bearfield

preparation is generally minimal for slow cooker recipes. you can throw a bunch of ingredients in, turn it on, walk away, and have a nice meal waiting for you 4-12 hours later. you can also make bulk all-purpose meats for use in multiple recipes. cleanup from the initial prep and storing the leftovers is probably the worst part of using a slow cooker. the meals are cheap as well. over the weekend i spent $12 and 45 minutes making a vaguely indian-ish chicken "curry" with chickpeas, carrots, potatoes, and spinach in my slow cooker. i will get at least 6 meals out of it. that "curry" is low fat, low sodium, high protein, filling, and loaded with good vitamins

you should also learn to cook for real. it's going to be terrible, difficult, and unrewarding at first. your food will not come out the way you think it will and cleanup will ruin your day. but eventually you'll get good at cooking and you will at the very least be able to google a recipe and execute it competently in a timely manner, about as long as it would take you to order takeout or warm up a frozen meal. you'll save money by making a meal at home and it will likely be healthier than takeout or frozen fare

here are a few sites and youtube channels i frequent for cooking advice and recpies:
