"foods you didn't like as a child that you eat now"

when i was a kid i thought lobster, olives, and chicken noodle soup were gross. these days, my subs are chock full of olives and who can resist the delicious buttery taste of lobster.

when i was a teenager i thought coffee and beer were disgusssting as well, and i have since developed quite the taste for both.

i can't eat rabbit for the same reason, i can't stop picturing the little guy and all the bones provide the full body structure, it's too much for me, but i can eat a roast chicken though, so i'm not really sure what it is with rabbits but i just can't.

salty and savory foods and that this harkens back to when we were evolving. Detecting saltiness was an indication that the food was spoiling.

For me, I used to hate dressing/stuffing, and now that's one of the things I look most forward to at thanksgiving.

I ate hamburgers ketchup only.

My favorite foods were Spaghettios, Kraft Mac & Cheese (ONLY shapes, no original or variants), cheese pizza, vanilla ice cream and brown sugar pop-tarts.

Repulsed by anything ethnic, vegetables or condiment (I still don't really like condiments though other than ketchup and steak-type stuff).

these days I'll get the Indian/Thai spicy level 8 and wonder if I shoulda gone 9.

the yellow yolk is the food source for the little zygote that's attached to it, which eventually grows into a chick, so you're not eating the undeveloped chick

the most recent food i changed my mind about is cole slaw.

i'm kind of in love with it now.
used to hate it
i think i just had some bad cole slaw as a kid and never tried it again until recently.

edit: but then again i was just really picky. it might have been good and i just didn't like the texture or something.

carrots, cabbage.

you ever see the calvin and hobbes cartoon where his dad gets him to eat brussel sprouts only by telling him they are stewed monkey heads? that would be me (the kid). i HATED them shits.

my wife can cook her ass off, tho. she got me legit loving all them vegetables. amazing what some olive oil, garlic and red pepper flakes do.

i put up with carrots if she make them in the slow cooker w/ chicken and rice.

i can fool with SOME people's asparagus (i'll eat it raw, no problem).

you woulda NEVER caught me een considering sushi back in the day. i will tear up some sushi now.

** i am not playing. i'll eat cooked tomatoes if they are chunky in some italian sauce. but like, by themselves, big, stewed tomatoes? i. will. throw. thee. fuck. up.

*** ditto the above. my babysitter found that out when she INSISTED i eat tomato soup with my pb&j. awlll over the damn floor. much as i like alcohol, and hot sauce, and skrimps, i have tried on 3 separate occasions, over the span of 15 yrs to ingest a bloody mary. i. can. not. special at red lobster where that shit was the same as another draink but i got some shrimps with it. could not make it work. ate all the skrimps and sent that shit back.

cooked eel is slimy and nasty and i've tried, several times, in china, to make it work. no. and no in sushi, either.

chitlins -- before i knew why they smelled like ass, even as a kid, i would not could not.

beets? gag worthy, also. i might throw up even thinking about takin something that nasty and making it worser by serving it cold in soup (borscht).

**** i can take SOME okra if it is toned way the fuck down in some gumbo. but it is slimy. i don't want to be thinking of the movie aliens when i'm eating an alleged vegetable. that shit tryna take over my body. no.

still don't fuck with most condiments or at least in extreme moderation

but i like tomatoes now and i can tolerate onions as long as i can hide the texture a bit

78. "Soup of any kind and Okra. "
In response to Reply # 0

I didn't like anything that floated. Couldn't get it down without gagging as a child.

Then one day while eating sushi, I had some onion soup and I've been eating soup of any kind since.

I didnt start eating Okra until like a month ago. Had it as a child and didn't like it...tried it in January and realized it wasn't all that bad. The texture is what throws it off.
