i think GC just wanted to put on a cape and flaunt it, but, none of you would let your 17 year old daughter parade naked in front of a drunken mob. you would ensure that you raised them in a way where that would not happen.

i'm an optimist at heart, and i firmly believe you can raise your children with sense.

you educate your daughters on the dangers of alcohol/drunken men. you teach them about the objectification of women and the inherent dangers therein, and you teach them about the value of the human spirit/intelligence and good choices. you continue to love and support them and allow them to explore their life with as much freedom as possible without putting themselves into harm's way, and yes, i am sure things will not go smoothly, but i sincerely doubt a girl with that type of upbringing is going to parade naked in front of a drunken mob looking for one thing and one thing alone.

there has to be an open dialogue between the parents and the child, and the parents need to exhibit patience when the child is asking questions without falling into hysterics. if you feel that you can't go to your parents to discuss things which surely affect you, you are going to make poor decisions because there is no one to cross examine your perspective with an open and patient approach.

The church doesn't necessarily offer morals and values as much as stifle/repress expression/exploration. I am not surprised that people who grow up in the church express an over zealous wild side given the chance.

I presented a formula I think works well. As I said, there has to be an open and honest dialogue with the child. If a child shows interest in alcohol, or boys, or drugs, don't shut it away into the "do not dare or else" vault, but explore the topic openly and honestly. Allow them to stumble a bit, to learn from their own mistakes, as opposed to repressing it. Travel with them, open their eyes to beautiful realities they have no access to in high school so they have exciting things to look forward to. Expose them to the arts, to good education, challenge them with thought, ask them what they are thinking, explore their thoughts with them. In essence, be their companion, instead of someone that attempts to make up their minds for them. Gently expose them to people who have over indulged in one aspect or another, and using the Socratic method, let them come to the conclusions you know are best for them on their own.

The church does not operate that way. The church very coldly and plainly says "Do not do that or you will go to hell, etc."

and neither do you. for all we know, this girl could be a goodie good that decided to let her hair down along with her pants lol. could be a one time deal. could be a long time trend. likely it'll fall somewhere in the middle like most of us.


life isn't a straight line and parenting is pretty damn crooked. you're leaving out at least to huge factors, free will and outside environmental factors. again, parents can spew lessons forever, but that doesn't mean the children will follow suit in all situations.

I've seen strippers with tiny builds.
