It hit me in HS. I remember the switch when rap kinda left the East/West and became more heavily coonish. It bothered me. Apparently, it got to Spike too. Sadly, there was nobody in my peer group I could commiserate with about it at the time.

First....I would go with Mo Better Blues...That movie stands as a classic....dramatic romance greatness....Another film that deserved Oscar consideration...But I guess black folks r not taken seriously when we are in love...

Inside Man....It's his biggest grossing movie so I don't know if its quite a sleeper. But I believe it should have been Oscar bait....Great, smart movie...

Both are good films. The only problem I had with clockers was having to leave in the middle because my friend's girlfriend at the time had to leave early for some DAMN reason.

You could tell Spike was still learning how to make a movie -- honing his craft/voice/etc. You saw him experimenting with things that would ultimately become his trademarks. It was rough in places, but it had heart and characters that were easy to love.
