"So do we have the only 2-year old that refuses to nap??"

This shit is MADDENING!!
She takes a nap at daycare just fine all week...
but on weekends...
Nope
Nothing
it's a battle EVERY Saturday & Sunday.
1+ hours wasted trying to get her to sleep....
ultimately she doesn't
then by 5pm she's an absolute monster....

We need a village STAT around these parts....
Shit...
just someone to come through for like 2 hours on Saturday & Sunday .....

My friends had this problem. They came to the realization that the kids were so excited to be with them on the weekends that they wouldn't go to sleep. They ended up making them nap by putting them in the car and driving around running errands and stuff for 2 hours after lunch.

before that it was a 1-2 hour nap every day around 11am. Then he was like fuck this shit. They became sporadic. Basically when he wanted to nap. 7 days a week turned to 3 days at the most. By age 4 it was once a week if at all.

of us lately.
Our routine is fcked up from jump anyways...

I start work between 6-6:30am so i'm usually on the bike headed to work by 5:45am M-F.
School(daycare) starts at 7:30am so my wife brings the little one in (daycare is here where I work) and the she heads off to work to get there by 8:30am.

Things aren't bad...but the winter has been long and rough being stuck inside all the time because of the weather. It's better in the warm months because we'll go out for walks and stuff in the evenings with the little one in her stroller so we're virtually alone behind her.....ahh...can't wait until warm weather gets here for good!

hockey was a brutal ass season. 23 weeks. Practice on Tuesday, Friday, and game on Sunday or Saturday. Driving all over SD to the different rinks he played at. On practice days I pick him up from school and we go home to change, stop off at McD's or something else to eat. Then head to the rink to catch open skate at 3pm. Then he skated until 5:15. Practice started at 5:30 and ended at 645. 45 minute drive home, pick up dinner, shower, and right to bed at 830pm. I had to do all that alone because my wife works until 5:30.

Hockey ended and baseball started immediately. We actually had a week over lap. But right now 1 game during the week and 1 on Saturday. Also practice 1 day during the week, depending on game schedule. He also is taking skating classes still to stay sharp until next season. So sports is 4-5 days a week right now.

The days we dont have sports he is doing tons of homework. We get homework packets for the week. So if we have a game or practice on Tuesday we double up on Monday. Or sometimes triple up. This schedule wears me out more than him. He sneaks in power naps in the car. I am drinking coffee like a mad man. So the breakfast date has been amazing for us. Just chill and talk with out no kid for a couple of hours.

LOL!!! No. My almost 3 year old (on Friday) will not go to sleep...unless, you take her for a car ride. That's the ONLY way she will fall asleep. Now, if she plays REALLY hard, then maybe. But, a nap is not a regular occurrence.

Even before he was one he would fight sleep. You know how most kids can cry themselves to sleep? Not this negro. This boy will cry himself into new energy. He gets it honestly, though. I like to be awake more than I like to sleep, so he got it from me.

*jokes*

For real though I've had moments where I wondered if (insert puzzling child rearing issue here) was just me somehow. The truth is that two year olds are vicious opponents who don't play fair.

You'll either develop a technique that works at some point, she'll get on a consistent schedule, or you'll give up.

I never cared too much about naps unless I really needed to do something while she slept and she's always just fallen out on her own at some point. She's more likely to follow my lead if I'm relaxed and we're watching a family movie, she tends to relax too and eventually falls out.

My advice is just that, don't emphasize the nap so much because that's precisely what will drive her to stay awake. Perhaps if you have a family wide quiet/relaxation time

the 'go out for a drive until they fall asleep then double back home and take them out and put them into the crib' routine has never worked on her.. Even when she was an infant.

The crazy thing is she naps just fine at daycare.

For the benefits of the parents, I'm assuming kids that age prolly get at 9-10 he's of sleep during their normal sleep hours.

Truly don't kno here, not being snarky

I love naps but I vaguely recall nap time being annoying/useless when I was a youngin

I believe we're at the cusp of that age now at around 30-months in.
Basically it's the same for adults...you need X amount of sleep for mental and physical recuperation. Infants and toddlers need more sleep than adults.

>For the benefits of the parents, I'm assuming kids that age
>prolly get at 9-10 he's of sleep during their normal sleep
>hours.

Typically that's what we aim for....it's hit or miss by a couple of hours depending on how late she actually falls asleep. She wakes up by 6:30am at the LATEST routinely. So if she gets to sleep by say 9pm at the latest then she's good on sleep requirements technically I believe.

>Truly don't kno here, not being snarky

Ahh no doubt....I didn't take it that way at all.

>I love naps but I vaguely recall nap time being
>annoying/useless when I was a youngin

What tends to happen is that towards dinner time (6pm or so) if she hasn't napped she is very temperamental and it translates to her not eating like she should, taking even LONGER to go to sleep at bedtime and just all around rough evenings.

every child is different. there is no magic age at which a child should nap this long or that long.. MOST kids are inconsistent nappers.

you have to keep in mind what is happening inside their bodies also.. during growth spurts they are literally coursing with hormones and evolving rapidly, brains sparking, muscles and bones stretching. at the peak of these cycles, theres often a temporary inability to fall asleep. towards the end of a growth spurt they might fall asleep anywhere in the middle of anything.

consistant routines are super important, but they will not always work. as long as you are consistent with the attempts to keep the routines, let the child's body show you what he/she needs.

unless you need a nap, too. I used to get in those good naps while waiting for my son to fall asleep. we don't even sweat it now, we have things to do. usually he'll fall asleep late afternoon in the car trip to go do something.
