"Stephen A. Smith Wants Every Black to Vote GOP for One Election"

This guy.

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/stephen-a-smith-wishes-every-black-american-would-vote-gop-for-one-election/

ESPN host Stephen A. Smith thinks that if, for one election, every black American voted Republican, it would send a message to both parties that the demographic is not under any one particular party’s control.

“What I dream is that for one election, just one, every black person in America vote Republican,” Smith said Tuesday afternoon at the Impact Symposium at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. His explanation:

From what I’ve read, Barry Goldwater is going against Lyndon B. Johnson. He’s your Republican candidate; he is completely against the civil rights movement. Lyndon B. Johnson was in favor of it — civil rights legislation. What happens is, he wins office, Barry Goldwater loses office, but there was a Senate, a Republican Senate, that pushed the votes to the president’s desk. It was the Democrats who were against civil rights legislation — the southern Dixiecrats. So because President Lyndon B. Johnson was a Democrat, black America assumed the Democrats were for it.

According to the clip, recorded and first published by Breitbart, Smith clarified further that black people voting for the Republican Party would be a great way to get both parties to pay attention to the racial demographic’s needs:

Black folks in America are telling one party, “We don’t give a damn about you.” They’re telling the other party, “You’ve got our vote.” Therefore, you have labeled yourself “disenfranchised” because one party knows they’ve got you under their thumb. The other party knows they’ll never get you and nobody comes to address your interest.

During his impassioned monologue, Smith likened blacks voting for Republicans to customers “shopping around,” essentially asking shops to “cater to them” so that they will do business.

“We don’t do that with politics,” he lamented, “and then we blame white America for our disenfranchisement.”

In the 2012 election, 93% of black voters supported President Barack Obama, with just 6 percent casting their ballots for the losing Republican ticket. That disparity led the Republican Party to publish an autopsy report detailing ways it can try to win over more votes from minority groups.

Maybe if they actually had a candidate worth voting for, maybe we would. But that's highly unlikely because the democrats at least have some of our interests in their party planning. Republicans have NONE!!!

The problem is, the GOP's values do not intersect with most Black folks' interests IMO or most of America to be honest. It amazes me that people vote against their interests. Yes the Dems take the "minority" vote for granted. But at least their platform is more likely to address and benefit the concerns of those underrepresented groups.

Like I hated during the last election that the fact that black people 95% voted for BHO was used as a sign that there is something wrong with Black People and not something wrong with the Republicans.

theres no nuance, why as a politician whos sole goal in life is to maintain the status quo would you want a voting based that had any kind of critical thinking or ability to see beyond black and white

Our culture mainly revolves around presenting and debating narratives. For people with even basic critical thinking needs this can be frustrating.

And say if black people voted for the GOP to teach democrats a lesson...would they be better off teaching a lesson to democrats, or enduring the possible devastating legislation the GOP will pass, which might last a lot longer?

It's an argument that doesn't seem well thought out.

Republicans were once in support of black folks, but now anti-black and the Democrats were anti-black but are now supposedly black supportive or inclusive.

In the streets that's called a shell game.

... Under the pretext of fighting "voter fraud".

We should force both parties to capitulate to us in the same manner as other constituencies. If you want our vote then here is what we want. Involvement in both parties is the ideal situation.....

With that said, I'm not voting for none of this tea party bullshit. I want to sing kumbaya with everyone as well but not at the expense of my heritage. GOP leadership has a long-term perception problem that needs reconciling with an ever-changing electorate.

Congress has finally realized the power of the filibuster and the national electorate is bitterly divided. For now and probably the near future, national politics is hopeless. There might be a few things that a president can do unilaterally to help black people, but they're small scale and would only help on the margins. State and local politics is where any real change would come from.

Also, I wish our commentators would get more specific about what action they want taken and what the specific roadblocks are. In this case, I want to know what specific legislation does Stephen A Smith want the Dems to pass, and what is it keeping them from passing it, and will they be better situated to pass it after our 4-year defection? I think getting a sharper view of the nature of the problem would help us better tackle it. And it's much easier to rally your allies or even spark a political movement when there's a defined goal and a viable plan of action.

I'm serious about three subjects in life, my kids, my money and reparations. For all my fans who love them some bin, ignore me for once and listen to what I'm saying.

Very simple, SAS political math is correct. But he sees what is...not what could be.

Yes we should pay more attention and give more support votes and donations to a broader spectrum of political ideas. Hwvr, the GOP is in the wrong direction. Gay marriage is here. Abortion is here. Immigration issues need to be resolved because thats here. Legal weed is here

What's missing? Our shit. Who is making a strong case for progress on prison or justice system reforms? Who is talking about expanding the voting rolls, re enfranchising the literally millions of us across the country in the system that can't participate in the process right now? Who is denouncing the constant war footing we on as a country?

Most importantly who needs us...and will make reparations part of their base platform?

You guessed it! - og maco

The green party.

There is a green party chapter near you that you can walk in the door from day one and contribute. If you want a solution to the situation we are in as a people and in this country...the green party really is the answer... And needs your support. On a local level. That movement is starting now...and getting stronger. Get active in it and be a part of this history.

levels.

by all means. get onto them city councils, zoning boards, dog catcheration and all that good shit.

in NATIONAL elections (and statewide when it is the difference between putting republicans in office) the third party ish is hustling backwards.

everybody voting republican made sense when malcolm floated it. it doesn't now.

republicans fuck over their own ostensible constituency of poor, ignorant whites who vote for them in outrageous numbers.

they REALLY not going to change their politics or policies if we flock to them en masse.

and so the national elections come down to governing. again, it felt good for liberals and progressives to say FUCK YOU BILL CLINTON with your DLC, triangulating, pseudo-centrist, overton window shifting bullshit.

but nader (in tandem w/ al gore's ineptitude ) got us bush.

if the other side of the coin were motherfuckers we just didn't like but who just did shit differently, yeah, we could take a swing on a far left candidate. in this case, these mfers are so crazy (starting mad wars and completely fuckign over the economy, supreme court, appeals courts, etc), this is not a viable, sane option.

democrats need to be challenged on the left at the local level. i'm glad the blue dogs got largely purged in the off year election, but i can't let disaffection lead to some more bullshit like 8 yrs of bush.

those were real ass consequences. and ppl still dying from all of those fucked up wheels put in motion.

peace & blessings,

x.
