1. "do 'robbers' go around trying doorknobs at random?" In response to Reply # 0
I used to have this conversation with my fam cause if a door is closed isn't the assumption that it's lock and if the lock is whats stopping the robbers then why would they try doors at random?

here it's common they ring the doorbell and then try the door.... but because the lock is locked and they're fidgeting with it and the homeowner get's alarmed, they often get their head blown off. happens every other month, sometimes a few times a month here. The county prosecutor NEVER EVER prosecutes, he's always like welp that's too bad... i guess the robber got what they deserved in so many words. But the person might have got robbed if there was no lock.

was gone for about 2 1/2 hours and came back to my house intact. And I live in what most people think is the worst county in metro Atlanta.....

I lived in a secure building in Center City where I just left my shit open generally and in Isla Vista we hardly ever locked our door. In the former case we had a doorman but I definitely trusted my neighbors. In the latter, we had so many people living there that usually someone was home, but not always.

Matterfact I fell asleep last night, with my truck parked on the street with the windows down, and woke up with not so much as the loose change in my center console touched.

....we used to leave our garage door open for hours while we were gone. We did that for months. We still will leave doors unlocked at times. My neighborhood is pretty safe.

if this stays on page 1 til mid monday morning, you'll get enough people to chime in saying that they lock their shit faithfully cuz muhfuckas do steal...
22. "luck of the draw...you can get robbed either way." In response to Reply # 0
or not be robbed either way. We live in a 'ok' neighborhood butthere was a string of robberies from dudes from outside the neighborhood. We have an alarm system. Never had a robbery attempt but had plenty of false alarms.
My parents are the type to wedge a chair under the door knob when they stay in hotels and to put their luggage in their car in the middle of the night so no one knows they will be out of town. They'd rather have a friend or family member pick up their mail everyday then tell the post office to put a hold on it lol

People regularly come through and put little paper ads in my door jam and cars are occasionally burgled in my community.
So yeah, I keep my shit locked and occasionally double check even after I just locked my shit.
I live right next to a train station so we have randoms walking through at times. Of course, I'd lock my stuff up if I was in a cul de sac out in the burbs too.

...right by the sidewalk, right in front of the bus stop. As far as I know, nothing has gone missing. We have a front door, so not locking it isn't an option, but I doubt I'd have to lock my car doors (if I had one), either.
To be real tho, I never had to lock my house doors in the hood, either. Folks just don't run up in random people's cribs. Usually, they are targeted as having $$$, and I just don't come off as a dude with mad loot. Cars were a different story tho, folks will go in your car in a heartbeat.
