"Yo, would you date someone illiterate? "

Curious about where everybody's mind is with this. Working in restaurants, I know enough cats who are and aren't but they still got boos, wives, kids, etc. I don't think I could seriously date someone who was but if they were cool and at least passionate about something relevant, I could be with it for a cool minute.

I'm starting to become shallow and I don't think I hate it

I'm sure being illiterate shapes people's lives in ways that literate people can't even imagine.

As for you coworkers, it's crazy to think how hard it must be to navigate to the US from hundreds of miles away without being able to read. It's hard for me to get around a city I've never been to before even with signs and maps galore.

if it's just a general disinterest in learning, that's a no. if it's extenuating circumstances-- hidden dyslexia, poor homeschooling or something-- yeah, we could work through that.

One weekend I was deep in the zone with a book and he kept interrupting me and I was like "just to pick a book off the shelf and get out of my face for a while."

His reply was "I don't like re reading like that."

We didnt date long after that.

How bad of an assumption it is to think most adults you come across have graduated high school.

As much as I love to read. And as much as I love it that my hubby actually reads my blog...I don't think so.

Illiterate=can't read or write in English (but does so in his native language) I could date a dude like that if we had a shared language

Illiterate =can't read or write in any language
Nope..sorry while it is extremely difficult to learn to read as an adult you should be/have handling/handled that.

crazy parent who wouldn't allow them to read even though they wanted to learn with all their heart, then I wouldn't hold it against them that they couldn't read. ALso think I could enjoy helping them learn.

Otherwise if their story was they just weren't that interested in mastering reading then I am sure we would have a host of a whole lot of other problems that would make us incompatible.
