"New GOT Trailer!!!! | b/w HBO Now to launch on Apple TV for $14.95"
Mon Mar-09-15 01:07 PM by Very-Effortless

in time for GOT premiere (because HBO aint no dummies)

https://www.facebook.com/GameOfThrones/posts/10152796914922734

http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2015/03/game-of-thrones-trailer-hbo-now

During the Apple.com live event today, HBO CEO Richard Plepler confirmed an enticing rumor. Yes, Winter is coming, but so is HBO’s standalone streaming service and it will be here in time for Game of Thrones. The announcement was accompanied by this all-new trailer for Game of Thrones Season 5.

For a monthly fee of $14.95, viewers will be able to get HBO content without having to pay for an entire cable package (or scamming their mom’s HBOGo password). The service, called HBO Now, will premiere in partnership with Apple to make AppleTV one of the launch partners for the service, no word yet on whether the partnership is exclusive.

As for the all-new trailer, there are plenty of visual delights. We get the live-action version of that great Tyrion/Drogon poster, the complete “break the wheel” speech from Dany, plenty of new footage of Jonathan Pryce as Cersei’s antagonist the High Sparrow, and a glimpse at, oh yes, another Game of Thrones royal wedding. Those always end well.

Game of Thrones Season 5 premieres April 12 on HBO, HBOGo, and HBO Now.

so there's no way they're gonna charge just 5 bucks on apple tv.

*edit* but i agree that it SHOULD only be 5 a month.

If you could watch fights and tv shows when they air, as opposed to the next day or after the broadcast concludes.

Last time I had HBO was right before I moved, last November.

HBO has a ton of content, including their original shows, but I don't know if it's worth $15 a month.

I mean after Deadwood, Sopranos, The Wire, GOT, Oz and Treme (all of which I've seen already) they didn't have enough content and movies to me.

I mean Netflix streaming for all of its content (and flaws) is $8.

And being exclusive to Apple TV off the top? I think I can pump the brakes on that.

In response to Reply # 0

My guess is that they have some kind of competitive pricing agreements with its current partners (FiOS, Comcast, Time Warner, etc) that prevent them from dropping the price below a certain floor.

But those agreements don't live in perpetuity and I bet after a year or so it will expand to chromecast, roku, etc and those prices will drop.

of course they wont do anything to piss off the cable providers, bc that is still where the most money is going to come from. still ill be interested if some where down the line we see them do some sort of scaled back version of it at a cheaper price point. say like a tv shows only option for x amount of dollars.

...so in theory, it's like a Thunderbolt port: you can daisy chain peripherals through it, because it's a powered bus. I use an MBP and use a Thunderbolt hub for external drives, monitor, control surfaces. It's not terrible.

In practice, it's going to be a huge pain in the ass, because no ones' thumb drives are going to fit in that fucking port.

it's going to be locked to strictly to Apple TV since I'm a Roku user. I'm also curious if this is live only access or if users have access to live content and HBO Go content as well.

What's kind of interesting is that the next two books are concurrent, so in theory this upcoming season can pick and choose which books they want to take material from, along with the fact the show runner can make minor deviations here and there.

I completely forgot what happened in the books, so the show being faithful to the original material won't matter to me too much.

*SPOILERS*

Last season virtually hit the end of the books' story line for several of the main characters - Bran (unless they change their rule about flashbacks), Sansa (she has very little left), Podrick and Brienne (b/c rumor has it Lady Stoneheart isn't happening) just to name a few.

There's still PLENTY of material to work with, but based on what they didn't cover - but I don't think they can logistically cover all possible plotlines.

you will only be able to sign up via the app on Apple devices.

Apple is basically just replacing the cable company, it's still the same -- you can't buy it from HBO

also, the exclusivity is only for online providers. if they want to, Comcast, TWC, etc. could sell HBO Now logins.

Apparently the PC access will be browser based, so hopefully it'll be available through tab casting at least, if not native support

Still think this was mainly a marketing tie in to coincide with the Apple TV price drop (not that it's a bad thing, I think it's brilliant and will cement Apple's mindshare that much more)

Unless the HBO Now login will work with the HBO Go Roku app, I doubt I'll be able to watch this on my TV, but I guess this is better than nothing. Will be interesting to see how Cablevision will offer this and if other cable providers will offer this as well.

Cablevision to distribute HBO Now streaming service

Roger Yu, USA TODAY 8:33 p.m. EDT March 16, 2015

Cablevision, the cable company that offers broadband Internet and pay-TV packages in the New York City area, said Monday it will offer HBO's new steaming-only service, HBO Now, to its customers in the coming weeks.

In striking the deal with HBO, Cablevision, whose service is marketed under the Optimum brand, said it becomes the first cable company to announce plans to distribute the service. Cablevision didn't disclose the deal's terms or how much it'll charge its customers.

As it introduced HBO Now last week at an Apple event, HBO, a subsidiary of Time Warner, said it will launch the service early next month — in time for the fifth season of Game of Thrones — initially on Apple TV, a device that allows viewers to stream video content directly without a pay-TV service. Priced at $14.99 per month, HBO Now on Apple TV would allow customers to access to all of HBO's content, including the shows that have already aired.

Cable TV customers can currently stream HBO shows through another HBO app called HBO Go — if they subscribe to a TV package that includes the premium channel. But Cablevision would market HBO Now to customers who only subscribe to the Internet.

"We are enabling Optimum Online customers to enjoy content in any way they choose to receive it," Cablevision COO Kristin Dolan said in a statement.

without being attacked by the non book readers?

ill be brief tho and say it seems they are gonna merge all three of doran's children into one character and i just dont see how that is gonna work considering the older two's very separate and (to me) important storylines

plus i really wanted to get live action visual of arianne

ill wait and see but from the stuff released so far seems like they are gonna not do one of my fav houses justice

I would not be mad at all if quenten's whole storyline went away.

But if they merged all of the sand snakes into Arianne I may be pissed.

And speaking of shit that I just realized angered me.... Sam not going to the citadel. I think that plot departure may have some unforeseen consequences

from whats been released there will be one heir to the prince of dorne, trystan! as he is also the one betrothed to myracella

they have already said from casting releases their will be at least two sand snakes, i can understand eliminating some of them to fit into the confines of of a tv show

but i dont see how u can eliminate arianne and quentyn completely. well i see how but im not a fan of doing that, i liked both of their storylines

also come to think of it i wonder how much of a reduction they are going to do the iron islands storyline

and yeah im not sure where u got that from but if they take out sam's journey to oldtowne that will be really ridiculous (altho i dont think they will, unless u saw otherwise)

Not this one but the other one that suggests that Varies and Tyrion are going to team up to support Dany. I guess it was inevitably clear it was heading that way huh?

Usually snippets of convo, shots of faces, flashes of combat, I am not sure it was clear to me at the end of the season that Varies and Tyrion were going to team up to help Dany. Minor gripe. Now that I have seen the trailer it seems kind of obvious thats where things were headed.
