I've dated casual smokers and non-smokers I'm a daily toker it's been a source of indirect tension, nothing said outright but I've gotten "the look" plus plenty of sighs *shrug* I'm relatively young, childless, live alone I'm gonna do wtf I want and includes smoking when I feel like it which is why I prefer smokers. Even with the "I don't but I don't mind if you do" crowd, I find myself worrying about if they smell like it too etc. plus it enhances makeup sex after an argument by a hundred thousand trillion if you smoke the hash-it-out blunt and THEN fuck.

if you find the right person you may not quit cold turkey but u will respect their wishes and pull back now again there is compromise so you will need that but if they can accept you pulling back you can make it all work

That's the only vice I really have. I stopped trying to compromise on this in my early 20s, when some Newport-smoking chick had the nerve to get mad at my weed smoke (back when you could smoke indoors), talking about "weed smoke is stronger." FOH.
I think the most judgy are the reformed _______s. You know, the chick that did mad drugs, but now has found God and judges your casual partaking. Or the dude that stayed drunk & high, but now wants to act like the blunt is the devil's dick. Yeah, they can save all that rap for the mirror.

one i hadnt really considered acceptance of the probable change that occurs in relationships i see your point especially if a person is looking for a spouse or long time mate
i'm kind of good with my vice i dont particularly want to be changed at this point i'm looking for acceptance in my relationships especially if it's not serious
i'm not really interested in changing anyone either or getting them to curb their vice dating implies limited spurts of having to deal but when it gets more serious is when you have to make decisions & value judgements

I lost a lot of "good" dudes with this but whatever. I HATE the smell and the taste of cigs and weed. I hate feeling like I can't kiss you over be over your house.
I don't try and change people at this stage in life, I'm trying to better myself. I don't have the time and energy to try and change the next person.
I currently "deal" with my ex and he smokes. He's totally off my list of husband material but just in the capacity that we deal it sucks because he smokes.

As soon as it's not going my way in the slightest or he says something I don't like, im out of there.
I also make rash decisions. If we get in an argument and he dosent fix it, best believe Im calling up one of the red shirts or going to the club that night. It sucks because I wouldn't want someone to do me like that.
