"Man, fuck home ownership"

If I gotta shovel the sidewalk one more muthafucking time this winter, I'm going to torch the house and collect the insurance. I'm sick shoveling snow, cutting grass, raking leaves and fixing shit. And shit I can't fix? Call the plumber/electrician/whatever and he can't come for 3 days? And then someone has to be home to let him in? Fuck this shit.

You ain't excited to get your garden on? Cmon yes you are

I had to replace the condenser pump on my gas heater this weekend! Flooded the basement, cost me abt $200 and maybe 5 hrs of labor including 3 separate trips to home depot but that bitch is running now! Saved me hundreds in repair.

This is when its good.

Our drains around the house were frozen solid with a block of ice in each so water is seeping into our basement.

We've been trying to get a plumber, exterminator and rooofer at our house off an on over the last 3 months but can't get the schedules to mesh smh.

..and winter for the snowbelt region is no joke, pgh esp because of those hills/mountains.

i'm one of the few people that actually enjoy the work i put in year-round, but its certainly exhausting.

..solid contractors actually have a team of people working to ensure each client is handled within 2 hrs (no more than 3 hrs after the end of snowfall).

if the snowfall last more than 5 consecutive hrs, they will make multiple passes in 3 hour intervals.

either way, they get it done.

around shoveling snow and cleaning off cars.

it amazes me that i go outside and it'll be me & my man from 2 doors down and the old guy next door and a few single women (that we help once we've dug ourselves out) out there shoveling snow.

where the hell are the kids? you know how many people would gladly give you straight cash if it meant they could stay in their warm ass house chillin?

my parents used to try and goad me into going around our hood offering to shovel snow for $ and i never ever even considered actually doing so. shoveling and blowing the snow on our property and the neighbors' was enough. and i wasn't so hard up for $ that i was willing to work like that. LOL

and i never saw other kids doing this either. i spent my whole childhood in various suburbs and not once did a kid show up at our house offering his/her service. but that may be b/c my parents made sure *i* was out there clearing the snow at our house so we never needed anyone else's service. and neither did our elderly neighbors b/c i had to clear their snow too. LOL

fuck you.

He pays a dude $300 at the start of every winter. The dude snowblows for the year...including both sidewalks, driveway, walkway, and backyard walkway.

i could easily see someone charging $75 or more per time.

I am still responsible for any repairs that are needed inside my unit.

I've been doing the number crunching (house vs condo) and I'm paying alot for "convenience". On the other hand, average house out here is $850,000 so I'll have to hold tight unless I get a windfall...or a wife that's paid...lol

I sprained my knee recently so i was doing the bare minimun for shoveling and i didn't touch her side. After work, her joint wasn't shoveled and my knee was burning from walking on snow/ice all day trying not to fall.

I heard them late at night last night trying to pick the ice smh...

at some point, you're throwing snow in someone else's yard or on their car.

and i agree with your enthusiasm. the workout is the greatest benefit.

An earthquake strong enough to knock down my home is about as likely as an ISIS attack.

about earthquakes.

but this post isn't about me and neither was my reply to you. my reply was throwing your earthquake preparedness back at you in response to you stunting about not having to shovel snow.

homeownership in North Cali does usually come w/o the hassle of snow removal. but it has other hassles - like quake preparedness.

you were saying?

plus there aren't regular mudslides here. or flooding - at least not where i live. and we're not having a drought and our water source is a huge lake that's only 3 blocks from my apartment bldg so i can take showers that last as long as i want w/o anyone making me feel guilty or violating some local ordinance. and if i had grass of my own i could water it when i want. as is the maintenance ppl take care of the grass for me and they water it as needed. but they don't have to water it often b/c we're not having a drought.

fuck you.

as a Nor Cal homeowner i assume you have an earthquake preparedness kit. b/c to not have one would be pretty reckless since a quake is much more likely to hit where you live than monkeys are likely to fly out of my butt.

In response to Reply # 0

I've done both, for long periods of time, and I just moved out of an apartment building to move into a house. Sure, there is yard work, but I dig that sort of thing. I hated living in apartment buildings, waiting for elevators, lugging my laundry up and down, dealing with noisy and loud neighbors, dealing with assholes, f*ck that noise.

A house eliminates all that.

No snow to worry about here as long as global warming doesn't get out of control. There will be local council fees to pay but that should be manageable. Seen too many stories of people getting into apartments, only for the fees to climb year after year until it's no longer affordable and they can't even sell the place for what they bought it for. Might be different over there but that and the value of land ownership keeps me happy with our house.

Just IMO though.

granted its nicer out so you're not freezing your ass off but that shit just seems never ending cause they don't all fall at the same time and you have to do so many rounds of it...only to have your lazy ass neighbor's leaves get blown into your yard right after.

i don't mind shoveling as much but this winter has definitely sucked. i bought a snowblower on black friday and was excited to use it at first. then the snow just kept on coming. this winter's been long as shit.

With that said, I honestly don't mind the maintenance parts...it's when shit just breaks on you that it's really fucked up.
