"Poll question: Which city produces consistently better emcees?"

California and New York are barred from this poll because we could be here all day and frankly, I can't honestly say that either region produces CONSISTENTLY better rappers.

Meanwhile, I genuinely think of Philly and Detroit as first tier talent cities. Atlanta is quirky and I'm biased against it by my own tastes, and Chicago's given the world a lot of talent, but I'm on the fence about consistency.

GO.

Poll result (37 votes)
Detroit (14 votes)Vote
Philadelphia (19 votes)Vote
Atlanta (2 votes)Vote
Chicago (2 votes)Vote

it's always been new york and philly, 1 and 2.

LA has earned the third spot.

4th is where the debates really start, though detroit probably has it sewn up.

but Philly also gave us Black Thought, Malik B, Freeway, Beanie Sigel and Peedi Crackk

Eminem at his best vs. Black Thought at his best is a toss up for me

but Detroit also has a slew of slept on talent

I'll give the slight edge to Philly

Royce and Em alone son this post.

Big Sean surprisingly holds his own against most emcees his age.

Don't forget about Danny Brown either.

Philly has Meek, Cassidy, Gillie, Freeway, Young Chris (solely off the strength of his grind) and others.

It's close call that's for sure.

I'll say that Detroit's got some of the dopest wordsmiths at this moment, but Philly has been on the map longer (but only by a few years).

Even in damn Sports. Both tend to have the rouger style teams. Old Sixers, old Pistons, and both were red and blue. Hell, Iverson played for both. But both had Soul, old school and then neo soul. Dilla and ?uest love, being from Detroit and Philly. Both are extremely blue collar Black cities that have culture. Both have a strong rivalry with the biggest city in the region, being Chicago and New York.

That we sometimes overlook because the emcees from that school often end up transcending (or literally leaving) Chicago.

I'm blanking out now.

Anyway Detroit and Philly edges out Chicago just by sheer volume of "bars"...lol
