OKP is actually a very supportive place despite appearances. When shit gets real, most people put aside their ‘persona’ or whatever beef might exist, and extend their support, thoughts, prayers or what have you. I think that has proven to be a strength of the site over the years.
I also like seeing the journey we’ve all had over the years. Plenty of people have different perspectives than they used to have in large part due to their interaction here on OKP. People have spoken of changing stances on homosexuality, changing perspective on gender relations, etc. Some of that is born out of a certain ugliness, and that’s part of what makes this place remarkable IMO.

outside of OKP. Having consistent access so many different angles and educated perspectives on a subject in such a condensed manner has made me much sharper overall. I think it’s a great place for refining ones worldview.

Myself included, I've taken material from here, maybe even a perspective or two on subjects I'm not really well-versed in.
