They went and did their thing.

If they work it right, their next season will have crazy product placement.

I tip my hat to them

for some amateurs they've done a great job crafting an engaging season. The acting is terrible and a lot of the dialogue is cringe worthy (Rafe stays preaching) but they manage to drop some gems and they've done a really good job developing their characters. Each of them play a part in the story and their identities in it are well established. Overall it's really entertaining. Once you get used to the format it's a fun ride.

I don't know BK for shit so that's not necessary although I'm sure it adds to the enjoyment for BK folks. I also know nothing about street life but their spin on it has something new to offer. They're not just rehashing the same old hood movie stories.

1. Miz - Always terrible and flat every scene, no need for explanation
2. Fresh - Halfway through the season he starts dishing out tons of "Rafe Qoutes"
3. Gunna - He has a "Rafe Qoute" moment, I know they try to humanize every character but I just couldn't deal
4. Jessica - Just weird
5. Maggz - He is the ying to Miz's yang, Miz is flat, Maggz seems like he's trying to hard. But then again I've met people like Maggz

Honorable mention goes to the dude with the good job. But I know people who talk like that, so I'll let him slide for now.

I can understand a good 90% of what the Jamaicans are saying, if not more. But that's cause I'm from NYC and in my mid-30's. Dancehall was popping when I was in my teens.

The technical aspect and acting are poor but what do you expect with a bunch of novices and non actors.

Actually, like The Wire, having non actors in it helps to give a certain realism to it. Its no where in The Wire's league but that aspect of it is relatable.

I watch Nollywood movies so I will forgive bad acting and production as long as the drama is there. My people have been trying to get me to watch this. Said it was like a Brooklyn shottas. I'll give it a shot.

the script sucks.

its long. its nonsensical & BASICALLY the only redeeming quality to the show is its filmed by haitians in brooklyn.

sounds like a really interesting show.

does it really matter?

I live in Harlem, tons of people I see on a regular basis are dressed like the characters on the show. Before I just looked at them like they were the average young adults. But now, when I leave my apartment at night, I'm super vigilant lol.

People get got & shot every year at the West Indian Day Parade though, so you might get that Money & Violence feel if you visit BK on that particular day.

But still, I live near a bar where these types of dudes congregate & hang out. Someone got clapped right outside of this bar during the Super Bowl.

Let my love slide in and never slip out

Im not fascinated by "real" street shit. seeing neighbors become crackheads was enough
my area of Harlem was safely a mile or two away from killing and that was a fine distance for me

but yeah when I saw dude shoot his gun in broad daylight on Money & Violence I was like wtf

it's basically Brooklyn's version of Camron's horrible movie Killa Season

a lot of the internet is into this kind of stuff yet they'd never want it at their doorstep (i.e. Charlamagne excited to interview these dudes and running when real life goons were in his face)

It's bad but its good.
There's actually a story in there.
Its a regular ass hood story but it rings true at least to me.

Some bad actors here but I like it. Raef is an interesting character to me .
Those two chicks are wack in every way.
Looks like they intentionally wanted scenes of different neighbourhoods in Brooklyn (and the Bronx?).
Sometimes the actors look nervous where they are shooting... Lol.
Cop car in every other shot...unintentionally.
It all adds to it.

Production quality is actually worse than the African VCDs... Lol
But the amateur quality becomes less of a distraction the longer you watch it. So try at least watching 7 episodes.
Yes it is "ghetto" as hell but its kinda unique like church plays. Besides if you came up on Smack DVDs, you've been primed for this already...haha

There is a bit of Jamaican Patois which I can understand fluently.
Dont worry you're not missing much if you don't hear every word.
Its basically them saying again and again that the yankees that killed donovan have to die. Sprinkled with alot of yardie-lite philosophy and some Sun Tzu for good measure
Tall dread is the hot head. Chubby dread is the voice of reason.

I wouldn 't change a thing. The DIY bunch of homies improvising thing is what I like about it.
