"okbookworms: 22 Contemporary Authors/ recommendations"

i usually hate lists, but i liked this one.
i've read most of these authors (well, 11 books from the list)

looking for my next read, so recommend a good book you've read
about to start on a brief history of seven killings

recently read and enjoyed
frog music -donoghue
the bone clocks - david mitchell
the robber bride - atwood
(and her madaddam latest)

i myself would never want to be god,or even like god.Because god got all these human beings on this planet and i most certainly would not want to be responsible for them, or even have the disgrace that i made them.

It's a good start to contemporary black authors but some of them--ZZ Packer, Paul Beatty--haven't released a book in years.

Was pleased to see Tayari Jones on it, though.

Surprised (but also pleased) that Rebecca Walker wasn't on the list. She always makes lists like these.

Interesting that the writer of the article is (who I presume to be) a white male.

*Paul Beatty has a new book this yeah. Hallelu.

would fare on here.

I love me a good book club and I already spend so much time on this damn site. I might as well use my time constructively.

Do you think that's doable? Like a dedicated book every two months and whomever wants to discuss it can. In person is preferable of course, but...

the focus was on classics hence the 12 classics in 2012 tag. as long as people respond it moves along. i think we fell apart towards the end, but we made it through six books at least. now that i look at the list below, we also read Go Tell It On The Mountain, but i cant seem to find the discussion thread, which is a shame, because that was an interesting one to me. there might have been more but three years later, i can't remember. but if someone started another book club that would be great because i havent been reading for shit lately.

Kiese Laymon's Long Division, 2013
-i'm willing to fight some one who disagrees.

others i've read recently:

Going to Meet the Man, 1965 (collection of 8 shorts) - Baldwin 5/5
-it has three shorts stories in it that are better than most authors whole career collection of works

You Are Not a Gadget, 2011 - Jaron Lanier 4.5/5
-accessible, but at times very dense theory on the web, virtual technologies, and the future

The Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, 2006 - Sherman Alexie 4/5
-great YA novel, even though the end left kind of a bad taste in my literary mouth

The Wonder Boys, 1992 - Michael Chabon 3.5/5
-good novel. fun, funny, full of great lines

Highwire Moon, 2002 - Susan Straight 2.5/5
-started very well, then went to shit, and ended aight. She overuses metaphor and punked out on the ending

currently reading Carver's collection Will You Please Be Quiet Please, 1976 and Richard Price's Lush Life, 2008
