Im gonna post up something and you're gonna be like, 'WELL, ITS NO SONGS IN THE KEY OF LIFE" and we are going to argue around each other. Double 0 gave a sample below, if you think they suck its a moot argument, we can't argue who's music taste is better.
>>While, yeah, pop radio can suck, lets not get it twisted or >>forget to pay respect to the many strong songwriters that >work >>behind those hits. It's a pretty amazing how you just >flicked >>your wrist at two decades worth of songwriting as if its >just >>robots. > >I respect song writers more than any other musicians, however, >they are stuck/forced to work within the confines of radio >friendly tunes. The same song formats, the same chord >progressions, the same melodies and harmonies, etc. Time and >time again, this formula is recycled with new performers to >deliver them. > >There was a pretty good video exposing country tracks for >being the exact same song: > >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FY8SwIvxj8o > >The exact same thing happens in all other radio friendly >genre's.
Ive seen the video, ive even seen videos that compare contrast lets Nickleback songs that show it's exactly the SAME songs with the same chord progressions. Doesn't negate the fact there's some good work being done in the pop space, even if it's a minority. It's like me popping in and saying hip-hop universally sucks giving YMCMB examples as opposed to mello music group.
A large amount of the music I listen to is out there to the point it would drive most people crazy; experimental jazz, noise rock, power electronics, drone, etc. But I can appreciate a well honed pop tune even above the din of manufactured noise.
