I heard the owners of the Power Rangers trademark are going for some action against it too, but the dude who made the fan film ain't really trying to make money off of it anyways.

I'm no lawyer but I've found this an fairly interesting discussion for a while begin a video game nerd, and of all the major creative 21st century genres games generally borrow from each other far more explicitly than other genres, and it basically boils down to that. Unfortunately, it's a shaky defense because it often falls to subjective judgement.
