They made me work when I was around them. Taught me how to fish. Helped me identify trees. Taught me where to find wild muscadine grapes on our property. Showed me how to treat women. They just showed me stuff my mom or grandma couldn't

kids talk weird, dress weird, and resent authority for sometimes stupid reasons.
adults have been complaining about kids since we were kids and our parents were kids and their parents were kids.
Generally, the kids are alright.
but as always, they can benefit from guidance from level headed adults in their lives- whether it's a biological parent, a grandparent, a coach, or any other person that becomes a part of a child's extended family.

my dad's mom. my mom's parents were in the congo and both died before i was 18. my mom didn't really talk about them nor did she have any pictures of them so they're just these people i know the names of but that's it. i only recently saw a pic of my mom's dad in the last year or so. my dad's father, altho he died 2 years before i was born was always spoken of (very highly) and i've always seen pictures of him. i don't know i just felt like unpacking that in this post. i always felt like i was lacking by not having a grandfather but i have a pretty good dad so i didn't feel it in a way that depressed me just in a way like when i saw ppl with their grandfather or heard cool stories about what ppl's grandfathers would do i would wonder like 'man, must be cool to have a granddaddy.'
