So I'm in a bit of an exercise rut. I pretty much do the same thing every day: 1.5 mile run intervals on the treadmill, some weight machine for my arms, this body scissor thing I do with some weights for my abs and that's it.

I'm totally uncreative with my present routine and need something new. And I'm not seeing the same results that I used to. While I love cardio, I ABSOLUTELY HATE ZUMBA. So don't be suggesting that shit.

The small seats on the spin bike hurt my butt, so spinning's a no go.

Trying to shed some pounds but also interested in getting stronger. My diet's okay. A lot of my age-mates are already complaining of aches and pains and stuff (we're not even 30 yet) and I'm not trying to go out like that. I don't want to get big and buff, either.

I'd appreciate any links of some routines you do that you find enjoyable and effective.

Edit: (Pleasepleaseplease don't put me in Organix!)

I'm all about an hour of hula hooping, more like an hr and 15 min with the stretches

and riding at least 3 miles on a bike 5 out 7 days in the week

with all this snow, the riding isn't as often but I try :-/

and it was literally the saddest thing ever...and I'm sure hula hooping is an excellent work out but I couldn't get the hoop to stay up. As soon as it felt like i was working something out, it would fall.

However, the instructor had great arms and she said if you twirl the hula hoop on each arm for 5-10 min, it will tone them a lot.

i laugh but i'm serious...lol

i take kickboxing at tiger schulmann's
you can probably find a less expensive kickboxing class but honestly i feel like it's the best money i've ever spent
truthfully i've had significant weight loss then gained it back bc i was unfocused and greedy but i've never lost the strength that i gained.

i take the beginner and intermediate classes
the beginner class is just bag training - you hit the bag for 8 rounds with different combinations then there's 2 rounds of strength training at the end

the intermediate class you do level 1 or 2 sparring with a partner. you know which combinations are coming so it's pretty simple.

but yeah i enjoy kickboxing on the whole bc it doesn't feel like exercise (except when we do the strength training) and you learn how to beat somebody's ass if need be.

i've been training for about 4.5 years and i'm ready for a street fight

I think I hate group fitness but I've always been intrigued about kickboxing.

And you say the classes are worth the money, yes? How much we talking?

i forgot to mention that in addition to the classes you get personal advice from the instructors. you let them know what your goals are and they will help you reach them. and everyone in the classes are encouraging. right now we are doing a 90 day nutrition & weight loss challenge and everyone from all of the schools in the area has been very supportive.

you can take a free trial class to see if you like it. and i think there are sign up specials running now.

kickboxing - mondays

personal training HIIT wednesdays
