went from a ok show to being a very good show and very important

I caught on to the show super late since my parents didn't watch it when it came on. I remember seeing Season one for sale for $5, but season two for $25-$30 on Amazon. I bought season one, and was just bored as shit n said "this show super overrated...but I started watching re-runs on TV, and COMPLETELY understood the appeal and loved it.

With that....seeing Debbie speak on how Cosby hit her up to save the show, and how she called out eeeeeeeverythinf that needed to be revamped? Man, she did that for real.

his only issue was not paying taxes.

quite a few entertainers are paid in cash, and even those that receive checks are responsible for sorting out their own taxes. thing is, they're responsible for reporting those earnings and paying taxes accordingly. this is why you hear about so many cases of entertainers in trouble with the irs.

entertainers are not paid like the average 9-5 joe because most are considered self employed. the taxes aren't always automatically deducted.

redd foxx had the option to be paid in checks or cash and opted for cash after being cheated/shorted by promoters. even if he'd accepted checks, he was still responsible for reporting the earnings and paying the taxes accordingly. clearly, he didn't do this.

if you're smart, you work with a reputable accountant/financial advisor to ensure your taxes are paid quarterly. if not, well... you've heard the tragic stories. it doesn't have to be this way, but poor management/planning can get the best of anyone.

redd further compounded his issues by thinking he could get away with not reporting some earnings (as well as failure to pay), but didn't realize the same companies/people that paid him were obligated to report his earnings as well. failure to pay his own property taxes was the nail in the coffin.

if I remember right. He asked him for the money and Redd gave it to him, and told him that the way to pay him back was just to look out for the next person if they needed it, once he got himself straight.
In fact Redd got him the gig on Sanford & Son; they didn't have a part in the script for him, so he told the writers to make one up. Apparently he did that sort of thing a lot, he definitely wasn't a selfish guy.

She was HILARIOUS on Def Comedy Jam....Some classic routines....
