"Krispy Kreme UK Stops 'KKK Wednesdays' (swipe)"

A British Krispy Kreme store sparked outrage when it offered ‘KKK Wednesdays’ during this week’s school break.

For a U.S. company based in the South, it was a pretty embarrassing mistake.

But the Krispy Kreme doughnut chain stepped forward Tuesday to apologize for a British franchise that advertised a "KKK Wednesday" during this week's school break.

As in the Krispy Kreme Klub, not the Ku Klux Klan.

The international chain, based in North Carolina, said it was "truly sorry for any inconvenience or offence this misstep may have caused our fans," public relations manager Lafeea Watson said in a statement to CNBC.

"We do believe this was a completely unintentional oversight on the part of our longtime franchise partners in the U.K.," Watson wrote. "They have taken quick and appropriate actions to remove the materials online and in shops, and have whole heartedly apologized to their consumers."

I think they just thought they could get away with it because Britain (I assume) doesn't have the same history with those three letters. They must have forgot that it's 2015 and there's the Internet nowadays.
