"How much do you spend on lunch?"

I've found myself spending 8-10 dollars for lunch on a fairly regular basis for regular fast/fast-casual offerings, which I think is way to much money. In an effort to save money, I started packing lunch, but I have fat nigga self-control and find myself eating the lunch I packed around 10-10:30 and buying another lunch around 2.

Every once in a while I'll splurge for lunch (probably $8-$10) but most of the time, I pack.

Can you pack double the food? Eat something early and save the other half for lunch?

one of my resolutions....

but prior....$6 - $10 is what was being spent...

It helps to eat at my desk instead of heading to the cafeteria....them desserts be calling me....

The bigger/better the breakfast I have the easier it is....

My problem is that I head out for work at 5:30am by bike....and I work up a decent appetite biking in every day...so I gotta space my breakfast out between 6am - 8am...which will get me to lunch which I usually take around 11am.... I gotta have a snack by 1pm though...

Turkey with cheese, lettuce tomato. Sometimes roast beef. Maybe a double-decker PB&J. Sometimes, I'll make some egg salad at home and roll with egg salad sandwiches for a couple of days.

I alternate between grapes and bananas. And throw in various granola bars.

I'm not one of those people who gets bored with eating the same thing all the time. My girl is like that so it seems like she goes thru episodes trying to get her lunch together.

Apples and protein bars. Lunch in this section of NYC I work in is way too expensive to purchase on a daily basis. And I don't think it's too healthy to each store bought lunches too often either.

..on a 2nd lunch?

damn.

wouldn't it make sense to pack a snack and eat a lighter lunch ($5)?

i had a coworker years ago that had to eat whenever other people were eating, even if he'd just finished eating lunch an hour before. ended up gettin' therapy to stop that habit.

In response to Reply # 66

i typically don't have leftovers. and when i did if i ate that stuff at lunch then i didn't wanna eat it again at home. so that meant extra cooking.

no cold cuts b/c that shit gets boring real fast.

so i was left to buy and cook specific food for lunch at work. and doing that meant i was spending like $4 to $6/day on lunch. and it meant i spent my whole work day in my office bldg. plus extra time spent at home preparing those meals. and then i had to carry the meals in plastic dishes which i had to carry home and wash. all of that added up to extra time and work on lunch. i decided the relatively meager amount of $ i saved doing that wasn't worth all of that time and effort. so i stopped carrying lunch regularly.

fuck you.

I thought you meant you don't do leftovers because they are leftovers.

I cook for 2 and 10 years in I still struggle to cook the right amount so there is always leftovers. I'm going to make a how to cook for 2 post because I'm pretty sure I'm wasting money.

I brought my lunch (leftovers) and was real close to going out to eat just cause it's leftovers...

catch me on a good thrifty week
and its TJs bolognese with Kale

or Balsalmic Chicken with Kale

or i'll roast some brussel sprouts and make meatloaf

but i've been eating out for a few months now
=(
you can see up there how expensive it can get

i used to eat a late breakfast
BEC or egg white spinach turkey bacon wrap w a mango pineapple smoothie
but my spot closed in the fall

that would last me most of the day and i'd have cereal in the late afternoon

=(

which is kinda the way you're supposed to do it, no? bigger meals earlier in the day. unless i'm heading out drinking, usually for dinner i'll have something small. a) cause i don't feel like cooking. and b) cause i don't feel like fucking cooking. its pure laziness, but it works sometimes. tonight tho...i'll be having something good for lunch and dinner, cause i'll be out.

it's true what they say...people are strange, when you're strangers.

not compassionate....only polite.

I am not like you at all and i cannot pretend.

really depends on where I go, but the only time it's more than that is on payday. I can't pack lunch, like ya'll said, I eat it before it's lunch time then I'm hungry again around 2, which means either I eat again or I wait until dinner.

The plus side is that most of the places near my job give the hospital a discount (15% to 20% but anything is better than nothing, so that helps.

but that's literally $40 a week and when I think of it in those terms, I'm like "WTF am I doing with my life."

I know it all adds up, but you have to ask yourself how much your time is worth. Packing lunch would mean waking up earlier each day, buying more groceries, and having to carry my lunch around. Worst of all, carrying tupperware back and forth. FOH. And dinner leftovers usually get eaten the following night.

Not gonna do it.

On Mondays I stock my office and breakroom fridge with a weeks worth of yogurts, fruit, and soup. Then I buy a sandwich at the sub shop across from work every day.

They are building a Publix across the street from the office, so I'm looking forward to copping a 12 inch sub and eating half one day, and half the next.
