"girly post: dead of winter check-in"
Tue Feb-17-15 11:43 AM by nayaa

we're in the depths of winter - how you holding up? how's your skin? hurr? buy any new makeup lately? clothes?

this is a free for all post.

my updates:

- coconut oil has pretty much saved my skin this winter. i mix it with my vaseline body lotion (generously) and slather it on post-shower. amazing. i use it on my face, too.

- i dunno WHO i think i am but i've completely neglected my hair when it needs me most. i've started dyeing it so i should really be conditioning the shit out of it regardless. add the incredible cold and i've got major breakage. i just can't be bothered smh. I think it's cuz it's getting too long. combing it is more difficult. but i don't want to cut it..i like the length =/.

- my new favourite makeup in LIFE is bobby brown bronzer that i use as blush. it's very subtle and really accentuates the cheekbones. it's officially in the holy grail. gives you a pop/finish without colour. i usually like a more "oh me? i'm not wearing any makeup!" look.

- been on a clothes/shoe shopping hiatus and i haven't really felt it. i have too many clothes anyway. purged my closet and i should really sell the stuff iont want. i'd prolly make a grip

only way my lips survive is a strong balm base + lipstick + more balm

I'm getting a horribly dry, flaky, itchy scalp. It's either the cold weather, or because I've been in the gym a lot more & therefore washing my hair much more frequently. I've tried co-washing, oiling & wrapping my hair, moisturising my scalp - but nothing seems to work. It's fucked up because my hair is in the best condition it's been in in years, I can't be fucking it up with dandruff!

I'm not buying any clothes at the moment, but I did finally get a nice pair of ankle boots from my fav store Russell & Bromley.

I suffered from similar issues recently and it seems nothing I did helped.

Finally went to a doctor and they gave me a prescription shampoo that I used before my regular shampoo and it works brilliantly.

Have you tried mixing tea tree oil into your shampoo? Before I got the script I'd put some water and TTO in a spray bottle and prep my hair. It was helpful.

it works miracles! if peppermint or tea tree smell is too much for you, just wash with another conditioner of your fav fragrance after using these two. I actually use one or the other, but I don't have dandruff, just dry scalp from time to time then follow that up with hot oil treatment (my own mix) and i'm good.

a true blush that i like.

skin is great. oil cleansing method is still working for me. using whipped for that.
i DO need to exfoliate more often. just started using some clinique 7 day scrub again, so that's helping.

my hair, i've been trying to do protective styles cause i'm sick of doing it. so once a week i wash it and retwist or whatever i find on pinterest.

i just purchased some lancome (with their expensive ass shit) liquid and powder foundation. and a clinique purple-ish eyeliner.

i have been shopping my ass off. but the one thing i'm having difficulty finding are shoes that i really like. i hate this time of season where the spring stuff is coming out yet it's still cold as hell outside.

now go runtelldat, ho.

happened recently at said bobby brown counter cuz i was also looking for an under eye concealer.

she put some on me and i took a look in the mirror and annoyingly said "u didn't blend it right. it's all creased here..."

pointing at what i THOUGHT was just excess concealer

and she looked at me like i was special. didn't say anything.

i took a closer look and was like "YOOOO! that weird wrinkly shit is my SKIN!"

i was hoping to have that moment in the privacy of my own home where i can freak out to my heart's content.

but i had to play it off like i had noticed 'em before and was all "oh, cool." all nonchalant. inside, however, i died a little that day.

but i mainly use it for my hair.

I just started using Frank's body scrub and OMG, yes my skin is so smooth and soft. I want to try the coconut oil one but I need to use up what I have first (Trying to get rid of all of my products, i'm a product junkie).

recently got a make over at make up forever, it was so amazing and i ended up getting my 4th red lipstick...people are like "is that the mac color" and im' like NO!! They don't all look the same. I had to do a swatch of all my red colors...also, i lost my coral lip pen from MAC and now I'm debating buying a replacement but it was perfect with my coral lipglass.

I need to work out...that's what my lazy ass has been neglecting these last few cold ass months.

the coconut oil and lotion i was using was still causing extreme ashiness.

i started using the babyoil gel recently and even that has to be mixed with lotion or vaseline to ensure that i'm moist throughout the day.

now go runtelldat, ho.

its currently 18, but sunny
I do love that the sun keeps coming out even though its freezing in Denver
i've been rocking these boots,
http://www.ahnu.com/women-casual/helena/AF2523.html
they have a teensy bit of suede on the back, but i sprayed some protectant on them and they've been great

as far as moisturizing, i've been mixing bliss body butter with baby oil, seems to be working well so far, and drinking extra water

this site is good for selling clothes, www.thredup.com
I've made about 450 off them so far, and they buy shoes and purses as well

In response to Reply # 0

I recently cut over two inches of hair
But this week it was frizzy and dried almost immediately
While I was still roller setting
I've been doing ORS replenishing conditioner one week
And then this the next
http://www.sheamoisture.com/SuperFruit-Complex-10-In-1-Renewal-System-Hair-Masque_p_830.html
But it still seems dry. Help!

I do coconut oil from my hair to my toes
I'm considering doing coconut oil before I wash
And leaving it on for a few hours
I will try anything to get it healthy again

In response to Reply # 16

try to find something specifically for dry hair that moisturizes. That could be why your hair is still a bit dry.

I would suggest the coconut oil pre-wash and then a moisturizing shampoo (ouidad oil cleanser shampoo is great but pricey) and then a deep conditioner (that shea moisture one is good but I really love Neutrogena Daily Deep Triple Moisture one and it's CHEAP).

do you prefer one without cones?

The Shea Moisture one is actually cone free. I like Oyin handmade (honey hemp) too if you want something really natural. For more moisture, you can add a teaspoon of olive oil or coconut oil to the conditioner while it sits on your head.

Even with all this, in the winter I find my hair needs more love and I literally put coconut oil or olive oil (one quartersize amount for my whole head) on my hair every day before I get in the shower, and before I twist it up at night (when I wear it out natural).

I agree with everyone who says to avoid daily conditioners with protein. The KC leave-in keeps my hair moist.

Also, oil needs to be put on top of hair that already has moisture.

Make sure to clarify weekly too.

It's involved, but I've never had consistent coil definition like this before I started using it. I really thought my hair on the sides was more wiry but it was just dry as hell. It curls wonderfully now. Also way less shrinkage, knots and spit ends.

I've been consciously upping my water consumption like a FIEND and it really does make my skin brighter and help with my dryness. My curls also "pop" more without as much product as I'm normally used to using, if that makes sense.

I will never doubt the benefits of water again.
