On Friday, I left work to take my cat to the vet on an emergency basis, and, first, the Obama visit completely screwed up my bus routes, second, construction on a bunch of parallel streets caused my 10 minute cab ride to take 25 minutes, and finally, after I had returned to work and worked until 7:30 pm and thought that the commotion would have settled down, and stupidly not realizing that President Obama was still in town, I tried to take the fucking bus again. I abandoned that effort halfway to my destination, was finally able to flag a cab and even so, a ride that should have cost me $10 with tip ended up costing $20 plus tip because of all the roadblocks for one reason and another. As a result, when I realized that the next day was the new year celebration, I didn't go anywhere I couldn't walk and I stayed away from the crowds.
